Hi guys,
We've resisted getting in to generators but are now feeling the need. I bought a 600 w invertor to run the laptop and as Ally predicted the power keeps going down. Will get the leisure batteries checked out but would welcome advice on generators :which to buy, where in South East to buy. We will be in France this summer. Are they cheaper there? As brands are different sometimes it's difficult to judge.

The best one is the Honda suitcase type but you pay a lot for those, I know Donaghys were selling hyundai ones which are similar to the Hondas. Generally the suitcase type and sine wave, then figure out if 1kva or larger is required.

Yea Honda are the ultimate but a 1kw genny will only run lights, fridge, laptop and from experience of selling these items I found people were coming back and changing for the 2kw. I have sold quite a few Kipor 2.0kw and 2.6 kw and never had bother with any of them. I have a good secondhand 2.6kw pure sine wave generator "suitcase type" that can be sold a lot cheaper than a new one. The 2.6 kw will drive everything in a Motorhome and is as quiet as a Honda. PM me if you need more info.

Generators are usually frowned upon in France. Solar is the preferred method for charging batteries there.

I think generators are frowned upon nearly everywhere ! As Mark said I would be inclined to investigate solar first and maybe fit an extra leisure Battery
