Gas attack alarms

While we were on an aire in France this summer we got chatting to a French couple in the motorhome beside us. The showed us that they had gas attack alarm fitted for night security.

They were very surprised that we didn't have any such alarm. They explained that it was common in France for motorhomers to have these fitted.

I have heard may reports of motorhomes being broken into during the night on Aires but had never heard of these alarms. Has anyone any experience of these alarms as I would think about buying them before next year.

Never heard of a gas attack alarm, personally I don't believe they happen, more like "too many glasses of wine and slept through the break in attack". I have heard of gas and carbon monoxide alarms though.

No. It was an attack alarm. The term "bandit" was even used.

It would appear to be still going on and is real. A member on another forum (which shall not be named here) disturbed two people in his van in France last month.

I am still a bit sceptical about all this, especially after having spoken to an anesthetists about it. If such gas was available surely the police would use it in hostage situations. How do the thieves calculate for body weight etc so they do not kill you. I think the fear of it is being used to sell ordinary gas alarms which also cover this narcotic gas. I was also referred to the link below.

It all seems a bit of a myth.

Usually the attackers use a narcotic ether gas, seems that it sends the victim(s) into a heavier sleep, readily available for the boys in the know..

There are many different types available on the market, some can be INTEGRATED INTO AN EXISTING MOTORHOME ALARM SYSTEM for further sound and visual warning!! We use a couple of types at our shop

A good one is the MCR gas trio alarm, it comes as standard with 2 sensors, usually 1 is fitted low level, for the heavier than air gases, ie butane, propane
the other is fitted at sleeping level for the narcotic and monoxide gases, and there is a main unit where the system can be turned on or of.

Also is the Thitronik, they come as plug in type, and range up to a complete fitted alarm system, with seperate sirens, sensors....
