I think pol is talking about an actual awning rather than a canopy type.

HI Moira, yes it did come with a awning fitted from new,
the drive away awning is very similar to a tent onto the side of van and gives a bit of extra space for chairs table etc without having to put them away in the boot/garage.
Thanks.

I had the same idea a few years ago and bought the sides for the roll out awning. To be honest I've only used them about twice.

I have only used the roll out a handful of times in the two years of having the motorhome, but I can see the usefulness of having an extra room if you are parked up for a few days on a site any less than a couple of days isnt in my opinion worth the work and hassle especially in Ireland with all the rain we have.

We don't have one and never will. But a couple of things to consider is that they take up a lot space in your garage and add considerable weight.

We would never have one, it would remind me to much of caravanning and having to put up an awning, I know I would use it once and then it would get left in the shed. But there are only two of us so if you have kids or need the space it might work for you, everyone is different.

I got a drive away one for Hessy last year and found it great for a dining /cooking and airing area.
Keeps smells out of the unit and you can zip up, lock and drive off leaving the kit safe enough.

We also hung the wetsuits in it for drying out, especially good in Wet weather.

Negatives - Storage - so i stuck on a roof box to handle it

Its a great additional space for the dog and kids to wreck/ enjoy.

We still have the drive away awning that we used with the trooper before we got the Motorhome and never brought it with us and I think we never will. It is fairly heavy, bulky and takes a bit of time to erect especially if it is raining. That was the reason we moved to the Motorhome in the first place and you are tied to sites. Having said that I would probably use it if I had a big Family traveling with me, before I would buy a large RV / tag axle, fuel guzzling Motorhome.

Hi

We have a Khyam Motordome Excelsior drive away awning and I must admit it is great. It pops up with minimal fuss and offers lots of space. Great thing for us is when on the sites we pop it up when we leave the site for the day and store the chairs, table, kids toys etc whilst marking our residence on a parking slot. It is brill and the envy of many caravan owners who watch in awe as we arrive on site and have the awning up in less than 15 mins.

Down side is they are expensive but in my opinion the best.

A friend has one and it is as good as they get.

The in laws have one of the inflatable drive away awnings for their T5. Dead handy, and after seeing it go up compared to one with poles I'd pay the extra tbh.

Our van came with a safari/ privacy room that we haven't really brought with us (and we've never actually put up). However, last weekend in the rain, due to the wind, the roll out awning wasn't keeping us dry, so it's back on the list. No idea how long it'll take to put up, but having sides would've been good at the weekend. I don't really want to turn into one of those people (caravanners!?! :D ) who spend their first hour or so setting up an awning - bad enough having to arse around with levelling blocks, screens in the cab etc.. However, we do tend to sit outside having a drink whilst the chaps settle down in the evening, and do most of our cooking outside anyway and has been mentioned there's always wetsuits and jackets to dry. So I'm a bit conflicted. It is heavy as well.

Edit - got a chance to look up the inflatable awnings - some price on them. I think we'll be trying out the privacy room we've got for the occasional use, and get a pop tent or something to hold a pitch if we need to driveaway! Probably still cheaper than getting a privacy room if we didn't have the option.
