I have just received information from my parents that some French speed limits have been changed.

Some of the roads where no speed limit is displayed are now 80kph instead of 90kph.

Thanks for that, Mark.

Is it on specific roads or road types. is there a rule of thumb we could apply.

Heading there on Wed.

Nothing definite Davy.

It seems to be in certain departments but there is no list.
As far as we can gather it will be on single carriageways which were 90kph but not all of them. I would suggest if there is no speed limit sign take it as 80kph.
It won't make a massive difference to me as I try to be below the limit as it can change with little or no warning. I noticed more and more 30kph signs last year and usually when we were at the end of it. No idea when some of them started.

If I hear any more I will post it here.

thanks Mark.

we tend to drive at no more than 50mph as we are on holiday and it seems to be a good economical speed for the van.

I do tend to pay more attention to speed limits, especially in built up areas in France, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Forewarned is forearmed.
