Firstly, RIP and condolences to the womans family.
I'll start with the fact we do have a carbon monoxide alarm in the van (as well as several in the house), but why the focus on carbon monoxide? The article states the fire brigade were called because of a smell of gas, but isn't carbon monoxide odourless?

Re: Folks. Please check that your carbon monoxide detector works
I was thinking along similar lines at the weekend. When I started using my van, I got a carbon monoxide and a regular smoke alarm and fitted both. On the only occasion I used my camping stove inside the carbon monoxide detector went off. I vowed to only use it outside after that and brought the detector into the house as I wouldn't be cooking in the van, I have no heating other than on hook up and wouldn't run the van for engine heat.
However at the weekend I thought about the 8 refill canisters or cassettes that are rolling around in a box under the seat. What if they were to get damaged. Neither detector would pick up their presence but there probably would be a strong smell.
TAYLOR.

Strong smell is ok Paul if you are awake and not smoking you cigars.
True Ken, but must start to put the stove out at night and only car 1 spare from now on.
