I am not sure what your test involves but I would suggest the following.

Empty all water tanks to reduce weight. As has been recently mentioned on this forum, this could assist with breaking ability.
Remove footwear and clothing for the same reason.

It could get a bit nippy

Take everything out of your motorhome that isnt fixed to it, it makes for a good excuse to clear out the things that you really dont need with you as well as reducing the overall weight.

We have tested ours twice, passed first go each time and never took anything out of it.
You need your reg. cert and if the Motorhomes is LHD you will need Beam benders on the Head Lights.

Lad the test in the south is now centralised as far as I know,

You no longer have to exchange the pass cert for a cert of road worthiness any more, the cvrt post you out the pass cert and the disc for the windscreen,

And I have heard that a camper be it 3500kgs or over as long as it's 2 axles is €93 odd and if it's got 3 axles it's more (€111 odd I think)

Why bother wasting your time going into the flipping tax office, post the reminder with the appropriate info filled in and payment (cheque or card) and they will post you out your tax disc usually with in 4 working days, only cost is 60 pence for a stamp 8-)

Hope this helps some body

I had mine done in March and passed ok.

The cost for the test = € 70.86
Camper RSA Levy = € 6
VAT = € 16.30

Total = € 93.16

This happened to me last year as well, I rang the Tax office to query why this was so as I always had a pin number and the lady in the tax office offered to give me a pin number over the phone.

But as I was going on hol's in three days time I might not get the Disc in time, so I had to go to the tax office to get it. :-)

I went in to the motor tax office to tax the van I had to fill in a form then I was told they had to see the van as I was taxing it for the first time even though it was taxed before as it is an 08 I bought it last December
I went home and got the camper went back qued again for half an hour.
A man came out to look at the van and asked to see the inside and after giving it a good going over he said it was ok.
He then asked to see the registration book and he then told me there was a problem as the make model stated unspecified and he would have to contact the Shannon office to have it rectified.
He told me that if I was in another country and was stopped they would take the van off me as the tax disc stated unspecified.
Another half an hour and I was called payed €102 tax and got my disc stating renault master they told me I would be issued with a new regristeration book in a week

So that's the story on it it's strange alright

My logbook and tax disc also say unspecified for the make so I rang the tax office who told me to contact the revenue in CVO section in Rosslare Harbour. I spoke with a guy called Kevin Brogan who was very helpful. After checking all my details on his computer he said to send the logbook down to them, they will fill in the correct details and forward it to Shannon who will issue a new logbook. He said that the make is the coach-builder and not the original base vehicle. If I ever get over there I hope the French and Italian cops are happy that I'm driving a Dethleffs and not a Fiat Ducato. :o

They may not be interested in road tax from what the guy told me at the tax office that in the event of a collision ect there would be a problem as the vehicle can't be described if your car is an Opel cadet then the make is Opel and the model is cadet so if your camper is make fiat model adria
There is a lot of changes lately and I don't think it is clear what way campers should be described
Anyway I will have my registration book returned next week it will be interesting to see what they specify the camper as

Hi Paddtx, Can you tell us what is under ( J ) Eu Vehicle Category.

Mine is ( N1 ), which is incorrect as this is for commercial vehicles. It should be M or M1 for motorhomes. I tried to get mine changed last year with a lot of phone calls Etc, to no avail so I just couldn't be bothered any more. The Sooner the better the RSA sort it out once and for all.

This is why some Motorhomes are receiving speeding tickets as category N1 is for commercial and restricted to 80/85 Kilometers hour.

It was A big discussion on boards.ie but I cant find the link right now.

I found this link EU law and publications

Scroll down to ANNEX II
DEFINITION OF VEHICLE CATEGORIES AND VEHICLE TYPES
A. DEFINITION OF VEHICLE CATEGORY

It is affectingly a commercial chassis and cab I agree with you they need to sort this out as there is a lot of light commercial vehicles used for different purposes this was plain to see at the tax office as everyone were having problems trying to tax their vehicles

Yeah paddyx, when I went in to tax my van last year I mentioned that N1 was wrong they looked at me as if I had two heads, they even rang Shannon and they still couldn't get an answer.

They fobbed me off by saying that they will sort it out in a couple of weeks I'm still wating 🇧🇭 since last July. :(
