Fair play to them for that Jack. Mine failed the MOT this year on the front ,rear wheel handbrake was only 15% instead of 16% so I brought it home took of the brake caliper and disc to take a look at the brake shoes for the handbrake and one of the linings had came adrift so I put a new sets of brake shoes all round on the rear wheels. Took it back up to the centre a few days later and all is well for another year.

I bought my first real Motorhome from Shellbourne in Portadown It was a 1993 Autotrail Cheyenne 6 berth, straight diesel with no umph and nearly a towrope job when you came to a hill . I always had to climb the Glenshane Pass on my way home and it was a nightmare and second gear all the way, however it served us well for 3 years.

Guess what? The Motorhome has failed the MOT again. The blessed handbrake just 1 per cent more and it would have passed. It's back to Shelbourne again. I'm beginning to get fed up with it. Under 10,000 miles and failed twice and has always been serviced annually. I am beginning to wonder if the problem is that it's an Alko chassis married up to a Renault Master. Would be interesting to know if any others with Alko Chassis has had problems.

£18.50 for a re test up here but Shelbourne Motors paid for the one on Saturday. Will be interesting to see if the pay for the next one. I had the pre MOT test that they do and paid for it as a extra and the guarantee is that the MH will go through the test. I'll keep developments posted.

Very annoying Jack, I was 1% on the right side last year according to test centre. I had all the brake pads replaced and adjusted this month. Good luck for next time.

That is disheartening when you do everything you are supposed to do. On a positive note please think that this test is meant to keep you road worthy and if there is any issue you would want to know about it and have it sorted. Keep the faith it will come right!

I didn't get it checked I just brought it to the doe I had to show the engineer how to apply and release the handbrake as you know it has to to go back down to the floor when applied to allow the drivers seat to swivel so I was beside him when he tested the handbrake and it passed

Hessy went in for her MOT today, her first in Norin Ireland
Headlights still pointed ready for continent
Slight movement in the Hub and leak of grease from the CV Boot
Makes one wonder how Hessy got annual mot's in England when the lights were still on the continent settings:o
I got light benders ages ago to attach to the lens - assume the garage will set them when doing tests??
Also thinking the slight hub movement is bearings? - Althought there is no noise emitting?
This movement causing the grease to be pushed out. The CV boot is not cut/worn either and no grinding.
Has anyone ever take / change the bearings on one of these? Is it difficult?
I think you need a press to put new bearings into a hub, so really a job for a garage and one that deals in commercial vehicles would probably be better.

I think in future I'll get my MH mot'd on the mainland. It's a real headache for me at the minute. I feel like packing it all in and selling her.

Are your beam benders for LHD or were they bought here?
Very good point, Mark!
Ours passed no problem twice with LHD beam benders.

Chin up jack,
It's a pain in the a** but at least it's not a major problem,
Just think of sitting on your favourite French site with the MH parked one side, and your favourite bottle of red at arms reach and Mahri parked the other side,
That'll take your mind off the handbrake.....(I hope )
It will be worth it when it's passed

I bought the beam benders here and until you asked - I never thought that there would be an issue - but of course there is
Unless i put them on back to front
Probably wouldn't work =)
Back to the World wide Shop again
I got a hub and associated bearings yesterday for installation - may as well get it assembled in a garage and then take off the whole unit and replace with a sparkly freshly lubricated hub.
Thanks a million for the pointers and great points

Mad max that's what's keeping me going at the minute. It's baffling Shelbourne Motors as much as it's me.

Motorhome booked into Shelbourne Motors again for Monday. They are going to take it to another Test Centre for me. They are very helpful about the whole thing. I'll keep you updated as they are not satisfied with the reading from Ballymena Test Centre. It will be interesting to see.
