How dirty is yours?

Our habitation door is just in front of the rear wheel and the electric step is getting dirty and gritty when driving. We didn't have this problem with the last van as the step was inside the door.

I was thinking of fitting a short mud flap between the wheel and step to reduce this.

Does anyone else have this problem and what have they done about it?

I am thinking of one of these. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400676921506

I have read about the problems people have had with retractable steps and the problem always seems to come down to dirt and water getting into the joints and electrical circuits and the advice is usually always the same, fit a small mudflap in front to help keep it clean. So in my opinion it would be better to do it now before an accumulation of dirt builds up around it (not likely on your van Mark )

Our Auto-trail was the same and it was quite a bit back from the wheels.

I think a lot of the dirt is coming from the rear wheel as it is just beside the door.
Maybe I need one on each side.

The link shows a mudflap suitable for a motorbike or scooter so might be a bit flimsy/flappy for your MH. We used a big lorry anti spray type flap to make ours , cut in half makes two. Obviously don't know what crossmembers / brackets etc are available in your MH to bolt anything to but this is what we did. First use an old cornflakes box eg to make a template, this you shape to cover any gaps above the mud flap taking account of where you can bolt it on . Copy this to a thin piece of alu or stainless plate and cut out . Bolt the plate in place then the mudflap to the Alu plate then you can bend the plate to set the mud flap any angle you want.

Good point about it maybe being too light weight.

I have access to very heavy rubber sheet which I made a set of extra wide mud flaps for the last Motorhome. They proved to be very successful. Still on it 0000's miles later when we sold it.

I am still deciding what to fasten.

Thanks again

I put a piece of Perspex in front of my one mark (my one is behind the back wheel) which is doing the job,

Then I bought a set of truck plain mudflaps for €15 and they do the job nicely for the back wheels so double protection
