hey all, does anyone have any direct experience of France Passion sites in high season? ie are they likely to be all full by very early in the day as I presume most are small? I dont want to shell out for the guide if im unlikely to get to use any of the sites....

I asked about France passion last year but didn't go for it in the end. We just stuck with Aires.

Here is the thread from last year. forum/topic.php?t=2322

I'd definitely recommend buying the guide. In the thread that Mark linked to I was discussing using the GPS coordinates. That was before we tried them. I can confirm they are absolutely brutal, well with the sites we were looking for anyway. It's actually amazing how wrong they are, they actually lead to the wrong peoples front door having followed them through huge gates and sweeping driveways! And if you're thinking people just decided they didn't want us hanging around I can assure you that wasn't the case as on one occasion they even brought us to the correct vineyard about 10 mins away!
I wouldn't let that spoil your appreciation of the scheme though, it's all part of the fun! :D Lesson is if you are using the GPS then go as far as the closet village and ask for directions from there, the locals will usually know the hosts by name.
We stayed at 3 sites and they were all very off the beaten track. Didn't meet any other campers at all. All the hosts we met were very friendly and welcoming. There was no pressure to buy their produce but we gladly did and dined with them also.
The only downside was our lack of French, even sites that were listed as English speaking seemed to have very little. It would of been excellent to be able to communicate more as they were all really great people.
Overall it's a fantastic scheme and one which we hope to use again in the future.

thanks moomat. I definitely would'nt be put off and the scheme def has to be tried, we are never in a rush on holiday as we take 5 weeks. I speak passable french so language usually is not a problem. What time of year did you use them? We only go July/Aug.

With some French you will be able to make the most of it, even my multi lingual hand signals got me far enough! :D

We were there in July/August too, as I said we didn't meet any other campers and from what I gathered they are never really that busy with them.

If I remember correctly when you are buying the guide there is an option to add a fold out map with the locations of the sites for a few euro. Buy it, I was sorry I didn't, the guide book does have maps but they're small and it's difficult to plot a route using them.

We used loads last year. We are a family of 6. I would advise getting the guide. The only downside I would see is that there are no pictures in the guide so you really are heading into the unknown. I think I read something about pictures for this year - they have a website. I don't think that we were ever turned away. Perhaps it would be a good idea to start a thread on recommendations from last year like I have seen on this forum for Aires. A lovely way to see rural France and lovely and safe for kids.

Thanks for that information and welcome to Motorhome Craic.

That might be an idea but Ally will need to look into it. The reviews section is great as it is personal recommendations but not too many members are contributing.

We have the 2014 version of France Passion and there are photographs in about 50% of entries. A map of France also came with the book.

Hope to use some of the Passions when we go to France in three weeks.

Reviews would be great, there's a huge network and some really great places to see. I wouldn't think it would be a good idea to post exact locations or coordinates as it is peoples homes.

Here's a little video of the road from a France Passion site to the local village, pretty tight at places but well worth the squeeze! https://www.wevideo.com/view/187524384
