Thanks Ally, thats what i have done for the last few years, but when i go away for more then 3 days they have the nest build and then i cant touch it.
I am looking for something that will keep them out, like some sort of electronic device,or an owl.

Try someone with a hawk which will hunt them and kill them.

Failing that use a shotgun, followed by a roofing repair man to fix the holes in the roof

For as long as I can remember.........have always been told that to interfere with swallows nesting sites would bring bad luck. I have three pairs in my shed........a pair are directly beside my van. I've put cardboard under the nest and simply remove it when they depart. If theres a few pieces of bird dung on the van I simply wash it off.to be honest .......the entertainment they give when teaching their young how to catch flies etc,is worth it. To watch an adult rise high and then drop a feather for the young swallow to catch is amazing.
Simply a personal opinion :D

I agree with you,but but they fly around the workshop doing their dropping on the new vehicles that i work on,i then have to wash them.
I dont want to kill them, with a hawk or a gun.I just want to go else where.

Just let them build and whe the young are born put a plastic bad underneath the nest and it will collect anything the throw out of the nest.

Ken is it a closed in shed or an open one? If it's an open one don't blame the swallows for building in it as it's an open invitation to them. If it's closed just block the hole where they are getting in before they build too much and have to stRt all over again so we here else.

Ken get some old fashioned CD's and hang them around the eaves of the shed and keep some light on. The reflection on the CD's keeps the birds away. It works for us! Good luck.
Alternatively you could get a hawk flag you see them in fields that have been newly planted.

I have heard if you spray dettol or savlon near where they are building they don't like the smell and go away, worth a try,

I have seen a few cd's hanging from the usual nesting spots so I'll keep an eye and see do they build,

They have not tackled my turf shed yet :P :P

Ken you are to the Swallows what Hight Barriers are to Motorhomers! :D

We had them for years in the Milking parlour, I could never understand why they built there with the noise and activity. They were very angry, when you would turn in a line of cows they would fly at you and flutter their wings only inches from your face. They were also very dirty but that didn't matter as the parlour was power washed each day, but the odd thing was I sold the cows in 2005 and they never returned after that.

we used to have a pair that nested every year just above a concrete batch plant, we had to wear ear defenders on account of the noise! and as for the dust..... 2 broods every year without fail, we used to bang the side of the plant walking in as they would take the head off you coming out!! i understand the mess tho, but i was always told it bought bad luck to interfere with them.

Last resort try the Dettol or Savlon? the size of your shed you may need a budget back pack to spray it though

I wouldn't chance jayes fluid as it stinks
