Pat as i am not sure of the age of your heater i will do my best to give you a few tips to look for, first the red light staying on signals that the water heater is not working as it would be green if working, next the pilot light not working signals no gas, assuming you have plenty of gas and it is turned on have you checked to see if you have one of the newer systems where you have to press a small button and hold for a few seconds. This is normally found behind the gas bottles and is a safety device in the event of an accident.Good luck.

It is a 2001 model and the gas cooker and fridge both work. Could the problems with the boiler and fire be linked?

It may be the cut off valve as most Motorhomes have a valve each for cooker, fridge and boiler, look to find them and make sure they are all facing the same direction.

Have you had it pressure tested?
It is possible there is a leak in the boiler gas supply.
