Lift

Hi folks.

Myself and the girlfriend are looking at taking a trip to France and / or Spain around July. However, we are on a seriously strict budget. So we were considering options other than flying.

One such way is to go as a foot passenger to France. Then from there we were thinking of trains and buses to the South. However, these seem unlikely as the main services run from Cherbourg to Paris plus they are expensive.

So our next idea is to hitch. We know from other travels that traditional hitching isn't necessarily the best. A new method is to contact people online who might be heading your way and have some spare seats in their vehicle.

This bring me to the reason I am here on your lovely forum. We are wondering if anyone of you has ever thought of sharing your bus for some or part of your journey with amicable and slightly attractive chancers ? If this is an unlikely place to look for such assistance, perhaps you could point us in the direction of a more suitable forum / community.

Thanks for reading. BTW, we normally travel by motorbike, so if we see you on the road in the future give us a beep.

Would love to do that. But there are two issues at the moment.

1. Fuel would cost a bit.
2. The bike needs some work to the suspension, new tyres and some other upgrades before touring this year.

If I get to do all that, then I'd certainly take it across again.

BTW, is there any benefit to both communities to pool resources, ideas, beer supplies etc ?

I can certainly see some from the biking side of the tracks.

Usually anyone heading to France etc in the motorhome are going on their annual holiday with family and that nearly always means that seats and beds etc are at capacity, never mind if they bring a furry friend or not.

Just like FC says we are full! 2 adults, 1 child & as they say a furry friend, even if it only has 3 legs! Wish you all the best with this venture!

I think you will find it hard to get a lift in a mh,as most mh users are free and easy,we stop when we want, turn left or right depending on the mood,or follow the sun.Its hard to do that if you are giving someone a lift. The best of luck on your travels

I don't know about any one else but we are always at max permitted weight or a little over and drive with nearly empty water tanks.

A lot of people will not take a passenger for a few reasons,

1) could be a psyco and make for an un comfortable trip

2) insurance reasons, in the case of an accident somebody may get a stiff back if ya get my drift,

Good luck with your travel plans but I'd doubt you will get there in a MH (un less driven by no1 above  )
