The Motorhome Wave

What is it with the Motorhome wave?

I have a 1994 Leisuredrive hightop and have noticed that the drivers of newer Coachbuilts and A-classes never wave whereas the older models (the boxy Citroen/Peugeot/Talbot/Fiat Ducato era) generally do. Is it because the newer models are just too posh to wave (even though I have seen them wave at each other) or is it that the newer models do not consider me worthy enough?

I have two young children and they like to wave back.

Thanks,

the fat controller

I wave at every motorhome no matter what age it is. Some people just don't bother so don't worry, all craicers do

I wave at all of them, have even been known to wave at refrigeration vans thinking they were campers :)

Get the odd puzzled look from some Motorhomers, but I have done my friendly bit, if they want to be grumpy or snobby that's their problem.

We wave too.
I have noticed recently that less wave back.
I don't care I just wave faster and more obviously for badness.

It isn't possible to wave at all motorhomes in France. There are too many. A third hand would be needed. :P

When we meet a fellow M/home - always Wave

When we meet another similar age Hymer - Go bananas - Wave, lights, horn - whole works!!!!! :-)

We always wave and find most wave back. Occasionally I'll forget to wave, due to being distracted, and end up waving after the other van has long passed!
In france last year noticed that most campers of all nationalites also waved, so not just an Irish thing.

Allan, I always wave but sometimes I get confused with van conversions and they are gone past when I realise they are motorhomes and not vans. But I have to agree that there is an element of snobs out there. We were filling up with water in France two years ago when three large modern Irish Motorhomes with tag axles pulled in behind us and the Men were the most ignorant people I ever met but the Women were lovely. I must say that I would not fancy joining what ever club they were belonging to. That's one thing about Motorhomecraic that I like, I have yet to meet anybody snobbish, it doesen't matter if one is driving a 141 reg or a van from the 70's there is no rivalry or Bull sh1t . Talking about France, I saw very little waving there as Motorhomes were nearly as popular as Cars on the Road.

Agree 100% with Chausson it does happen. I think the French title to cover Motorhomes,Van Conversions irrespective of size, colour etc is CAMPING CAR and that's what we all have. Enjoy.

We all wave! Ella even makes us sing a song when we see another MH!
Yesterday as we were walking out of the swimming pool car park Ella noticed a MH driving out & she waved at them until they waved back! I couldn't even point at our MH in explaination, it was 1/2 mile away!!

Big ,small, new or old, I always wave ,tho" some have a "thing" about RV"s... Dunno why, but ,we have found strange behaviour from some motorhome owners on sites, perfectly fine until they find out you are in an RV, it"s happenned on French sites, never with French, German or Dutch, usually other Brits. We"ll talk to/help/be nice to anyone, especially on holiday :-)
