Just had my HAB check last month and now moved the Monoxide detector so they now both to just inside the door at head height as this is now the current H&S recommendations apparently,
Try pressing the reset button on the Smoke before it goes off it sometimes works but of course it always goes off for toast so I take the battery out then (yes I know!!!!!!)

Depends on the detector, with the carbon monoxide detector. Some are roof mounted, mine says one to 1.3 metres, so coffee table height for it and roof for the smoke detector. It depends on the manufacturer, so check their instructions.

That's what I was thinking too Paul, and you wouldn't want to put the smoke alarm into a corner or near where the wall meets the ceiling.

At home mine are all roof mounted but are mains powered and inter-connected (so if one goes off all 4 do) we had to have them fitted when we converted the roof space.
The ones I have for the van state
Smoke alarm head height to roof but within reach to enable the cancel button to be reached in case of false alarms.
CO one to 2 metres from ground level and not directly above or next to any heater or naked flame.
Both are designed for use in a caravan/static home/motorhome
With regard to CO this is slightly lighter than air so will rise slowly, the currently thinking that it however is not lighter than heated air so they should not be roof mounted as the warm air may prevent the unit from detecting CO.
What however irrespective of all the above is to ensure that the ones that you fit are designed for Caravans/Motorhomes as they operate differently from those sold for home use and have different trigger levels.
