Hi Folks,
getting second battery and solar panel fitted shortly, along with an outlet same as for TV to plug in inverter to charge phones etc along with electric bike battery. We often park up on an aire/steplatz etc and maybe don't move for a few days, so phones etc need charging without drawing power from starter battery.

However I was wondereing______
What type of inverter is needed to make all 3-pin plugs usable from this and how much are they?
I'm sure someone else has done this?
Regards 🇧🇭

You would probably want to know what the total wattage when all sockets will be in use together and if some appliances have a surge when plugged in.

Not so sure that I really want to know all that! :'(
Without starting and running the engine, or running down the starter battery, I Just want to be able to charge a few phones, ipad, camera batteries, bike etc. and can an inverter be fitted so as to use the 3-pin sockets, and how much?
Am not always near ehu while travelling.
In Germany last year in the Mosel river area, we stayed for 6 nights in one spot and when we did move, it was only a couple of miles, so no opportunity to charge from dash power sockets or on the German stelplatz, it can be difficult to connect to electricity on some sites with only a few outlets and a roll of NIE power cable would be towed.

If it is only for charging then a 100 watt is plenty. Most come with a 3 pin plug input. Good ones can be bought for less than a £100 for 100 watt.

I know no good for the bike but for phones etc why not simply wire in a 12v socket (fused) direct to the leisure battery side this would be more effective as the inverter also uses power to convert to mains so would be a bigger drain if used for charging things that can be charged directly off of 12v.
This socket could be used also to plug the inverter in when required, something like this would maybe

i charge 2 x electric bike batteries via a small invertor fitted by simon at LTS
he calculated what was required and fitted accordingly
cant remember what wattage but its nowhere near 1000
main thing is it is wired direct to leisure batt and not just plugged in to 12v socket

Bob

Don't have an inverter as to date have done No wild camping so have had no need but feel that this may change shortly.

Interested in point that the inverter is wired direct and not through a plug in socket, I would have used a plug in as almost all that you see come with a plug or clips.
Thanks for that
 :thx:

Head out of the window as you drive along cures that jack

Wiring the inverter direct to the battery has something to do with the fuse on the cigarette socket and cable not being up to the job and making it safer, with it's own inline fuse.

Most domestic tv's have a surge at start up and then settle down, so it may not be enough to get it going but ok to run it, if you know what I mean
