Many French campsites offer a reduced fee for motorhomes who arrive after 6PM and leave before 9AM. Their idea is you are filling an empty space during the hours that is unlikely a caravan will arrive. Price is usually about €10

I have suggested this to many campsite owners in Ireland but they all have the same answer "why should I do this when I can charge full price"

Sorry if this is not what you mean.

I had this with the caravan at a site in Donegal, we arrived at around 10pm and had to be off site by 11am the following morning, I was never back there and now I have the motorhome I can enjoy the same area and not have to pay the ridiculous price charged by that site.

Sadly Donegal tourist mentality, including that of their councillors and relatives of mine running hospitality businesses in the county. Even so many years now since the tourist bubble has burst, they continue to alienate and screw guaranteed tourist pounds. Eg Bundoran aka Bundirt.

If a site does that does it not encourage everyone to not check in until very late, in which case you'd have a run on at 9.00 pm?

It doesn't seem to be a problem for them.
Most who do it have a one night policy.

I suppose it could be a volume thing over there. If one campsite doesn't do it the one two hundred meters away will.
We were one one in Loches and they had about 12 pitches solely for this purpose. All were small and were together near the entrance/exit.
