Bicycle Chain

Who knows anything about bicycle chains? :)

Fixing up Julie's bike, bought it brand new over 20 years ago and I doubt it has done 20 miles  but we are going to start taking it away in the MH along with my rusty heap.

The chain has rusted and snapped.

It has 5 gears, only one cog at the front and that hangy down springy thing the chain goes around.

Are all chains "one size fits all" do I buy a 5 speed chain? does it go by length? old chain is missing.

Thanks

The length of the chain is standard for that type of bike.

How about someone who bikes a lot who you know.

My next door neighbour is "very keen" and I just have to mention bike and his face lights up and I get that lovely comment "bring it round and I'll have a look at it"

It seems some like to fix bikes as much as I like "modifying" my camper.

I don't know about bicycle chains but you can get joining links and half links for larger chains. They are usually kept together with two small split pins or a snap on clip and no tool required. The tool is usually used to break the chain .
