Cushendun - bad news

 ·
Posted: 14.04.2014  ·  #1
Due to the actions of a few Motorhomers last weekend we are no longer welcome in Cushendun. Motorhomers put their Motorhomes in a circle so their kids could play and blocked the car park for the locals.

It happened in Enniskillen before.

This will be removed from the Map immediately. Please do not use this car park - we are NOT welcome.

Portaveeny (sp?) Car park has had height barriers installed due to the same abuse. Dog dirt and the car park being blocked. This will also be removed.

do not SET UP CAMP
no awnings
no chairs spread out across the car park

do we know who these people are yet?
are they craicers?

its only a matter of time for this type of behaviour to spread bad vibes about motor homers and we will be barred from most places, ie the north coast can now say thats why there are so many height barriers along the coast !!!

are they MCCNI'ers?

are they IMCC'ers?

are they ICCC'ers?

Who knows.

I have been told they are probably not on this website and the ones who abused portaveeny are definitely not on Motorhomecraic. There is more to the story but I am not prepared to make that known publicly.

The POI was mentioned that it was online for all to see, so it did not originate from Motorhomecraic as ours are for subscribed members only.

Suffice to say we are no longer welcome and I wouldn't advise anyone using it.

yep all clubs should highlight to their members responsible behaviour etc

by the tone of your post it would be considered a hostile situation

anyone with access to members or groups should make sure this info gets known

thanks ally for making all aware.......

Didn't mean it to come across as seeming hostile, but I know I won't be using it and I would advise others to stay away.

Some locals and the Pub like us being there but there have been complaints, so make your own assumptions from that :)

There is a large grass area and a beach for kids to play on!

I could be wrong on this one but I think the kind of people that were out of order do not belong to any website or club,

And as said earlier its completely out of order,

Thanks for the warning ally, but all it takes is one bad apple,

Very much so. Height barriers might be installed at that car park, coaches use it for turning though so not sure what will happen.

If anyone sees this behaviour taking place, then perhaps we need to have a few photographs to publish on line, and perhaps an article in the local paper showing our disfavour promoting that the majority of us don't behave this way, or condone this type of behaviour. We need to address this wherever and whenever we can.

I would like to add a little bit of my mind when the topic is fresh... On 2 occasions recently when we stayed at Donaghadee on each occasion a fellow motorhomer released his waste water in the park where he was sitting and actually had to reverse over it to get out of the park. Immediately they left the seagulls flew in and cleaned up their mess. 20 of them and this happened to be 2 craicers and members of the mccni. So my point is, it wont be long to we are asked to move out of "the bus station" in Donaghadee. Enough said.....

It sounds like the people responsible might reside in their vehicles on a more full time basis.... Surely these folks are the ones that are not welcome there anymore?

Unfortunately we end up getting tared with the same brush, I had a number of raised eyebrows when I had the caravan, because it was a twin axle honey and I towed it with a pickup

I suppose but I think it's very obvious to see the difference between a family or retired couple leisure camping for fun as opposed to our more red necked and red forearmed brethren.....

The unfortunate part is they live nearby and could have taken their waste home with them. Wont name or shame this time but will take photos next time.

I don't know the place, but that is very bad news for all Motorhomers and it doesn't matter what club or who they are, the general public and co. Councils see this problem being caused by people in Motorhomes and we are all tarred with the same brush. For what it is worth I can't see Craicers being the cause of it as I never saw enough vans with children at any meet to circle anything.

Motorhomers in general need to acknowledge the fact that it is not good enough to expect to be made welcome in these locations then dump your grey water, leave your rubbish and be inconsiderate to the locals.
If it is not good enough to take home then why is it good enough to dump on some other persons property?

Same here, we have used it quite regular.

I received a message to pass on by someone who I trust to be speaking the truth and who would not necessarily have some say on the matter but would be in those circles.
As I said in a previous post I am not willing to make the full reasons public. Everyone is entitled to make their own decision on using it, I am just passing on what I hear and I will not be using it unless I hear things have changed, which I doubt will happen.

The area has a "no camping" type sign and has done for quite a while, perhaps it might now be enforced and further use of the area in the meantime might make matters worse.

But it's up to yourselves what you do. :D

Don't shoot the messanger ;)

More on this that I can post. I wanted to verify and make sure what was true first.

Campsite owner complained to the council, so the Council have now put pressure on the National Trust to stop Motorhomes from parking there.

Has anyone ever stayed at the campsite , we had a walk around it while staying at the Harbour and if I recall they don't have many pitches for tourers , it is mostly statics and camping pods .

They do have a small area for tourers, but thought it was owned by the Moyle council. They have also put in some of those glamping pods.

There was a big RV there at the weekend, so I assume it must be ok to use the car park again.
