All our GU10's have lasted 8 years, simply because they are too bright to leave on for any length of time, really need dimmers as you could get a tan under them as they are

You buy you take the chance. Have bought stuff and got caught to pay which resulted in the thing being more expensive. Other times the product got through and had nothing to pay.
Some companies will declare the package contents as a gift or sample in an attempt to avoid duty and VAT but many don't.
This does not mean you will avoid the charges but sometimes it can help.

HMRC are very active at present on charging duty on goods from USA.
