I was hoping some one with more knowledge would answer your question . As far as I know the test is similar to a commercial van and at the living area side they check the windows to see if they have safety glass fitted, they have a list of codes and yours should correspond with one of them. I don't think that they check gas or electrics. You can test your van one month before it is due and get a twelve month test from the due date. I was told if the van is out of current test when presented, you will only get a test cover until the anniversary date it was first registered . I tested a trooper last week and it cost €111 but I do know a Motorhome is cheaper and the test disc came in the post a few days later.

The commercials now have the test fee and a RSA levy of €24 bringing it up to €111. I think the campers pay a €6 levy.
The windows will be checked and as many seats as are listed on your logbook. They will only be interested in any of the camper parts like gas and electrics if they effect the bodywork, eg sharp edges, corrosion, pipes touching wheels etc

The testing centre all ways e mail me the month before it is due. Seeing that you are out of test you will not get the full two years this time.

hi serious3, as stated no habitation checks. All windows in cab area need safety mark though. They weigh the van so strip it out and take out spare wheel and gas bottles and leisure battery if you are close to weight limit, I failed in Donegal on weight. I have yet to meet or hear from anyone that has passed first time but would be glad to hear if you do. It seems a right con to me, at least if the test centre I use is anything to go by. Im not sure it is as regulated as the NCT system so is open to 'interpretation' by the garages carrying out the test.

Hobey you dont get notified offically, but sometimes the test garage(centre) will notify you, but that is only to get you to go back to that garage .
I just passed my test in Mar and have noticed that i only got a 1 yr cert (o5 van 9 yrs old ) has anyone got a 2 yr cert since the new CVRT test came in , on the old system they could not write a 2 yr cert so you had to get 2x1 yr certs 🇧🇭

Mine was out last week and I didn't get any notification from anyone. I only got a six month cert because apparently as it was imported and old they couldn't give any more. It has only done about 25 miles since the last test!

Does that mean all old imported vans will only get 6 month's cert, surely not.
Is that 25k or 25 miles

Yes, apparently for an elderly import, you only get 6 months. They said i would get a year this time - so obviously money grabbing! And yes, it has only done about 25 miles, possibly 30 at a push.

The first time I tested our van the test centre sent me to a official weigh bridge but never since, we got a 2 year test the first time and only one last year as it was 9 years old. Ours is going for its third test next month and passed first time every time.

I think why you only got a 6 month cert is at that age you are only entitle to 12 months but your van was out of test when you presented it to the test centre and you only get a test until it's anniversary of its first registration when that happens. I was also told you can test up to a month before it is due and you will get a 1 year or 2 year test from the due date and not from the date you tested it.

Yes, actually they told me that too about the first registration. But it was registered in July so April makes no sense at all. TBH I can't be bothered to argue with them. 🇧🇭

You have two first registrations , one in Belgium and one in Ireland, I don't know which one they are using but it is probably the opposite to the one you are talking about.

I checked all the various registration dates and none are April. It was first registered in the UK in January 1992, registered in Ireland in July last year, tested in October and got a cert til April. So April is not a year from anything at all. I presume I will get a year this time.

I have just discovered that if it has no cert or the cert is out for more than a year then under the new system you get six months regardless of dates of registration.

I had mine tested last month the fee was just under 100E. They did not look at anything that would normally be related to a habitation check, just road worthiness and seats etc. It took less than an hour.

I was confused when I got my cvrt/doe disc for my camper which I brought across from the uk as it was only valid for 6 months from the date of the DOE test. I rung the agency and asked why as the vehicle would not be 10 years old until Nov 2015 and they said as I'd only just imported the vehicle was not on their system correctly and that they would send me a new disc valid for 2 years. They did it arrived this morning valid for 2 years expires 1 May 2016.
I'm happy with that.

When I had the test done on the camper last year, they failed it on some rot in the timber of the floor at the rear.
I took the van to Donagheys to have repaired and serviced. They had never heard of a van failing for this issue and suggested a minor repair, as in covering rotten timber with fresh timber outside, as they were booked out for the 21 days I had to return for retest.
Took the van back to retest, receptionist asked me did I have the work done and when I replied in the affirmative, she just handed me out the cert!! No recheck, no request to see invoice, no mechanic!!
make what you will of that, but I will be taking it somewhere different next time!
