Thinking about power for when wild motor homing. Was looking at a Swiss Kraft 1800 silent type one but wondering what others use. It is not for site use

We never needed a generator, The solar panel keeps our leisure battery charged, sometimes we use an inventor for 240 volt and of coarse the gas for cooking, heating and hot water

I've got a Honda 20i and wouldn't be without it. I also have a Solar Panel which is good in the summer but in the winter if we are looking at tv etc by the Sunday morning the batteries need help from the genny.

120 or 140 watt solar panel and two good 110amp leisure batteries will do you job unless you want to run something heavy like a hair dryer via an inverter.

I've got 2 110 amp Gel batteries. Don't forget in the winter the heating uses a lot of amps.

That's why I love a van like mine with a Fire front, doesn't use any amps if you don't put the blow heating on, great for being off campsites.

That does us for four to five days but we are not real TV watchers and I don't dry my hair when we are away. :'(

Solar does us all year.
In summer it simply over produces i.e. More then the batteries can hold.

We can get at least four days during winter without driving to produce more charge.

It's actually a difficult question as it depends entirely on your vehicle, what you intend using the jenny for, and how often.

For me with a small Campervan it's a 2 kw Honda gas powered for best quiet I can get, but then I need it as I only have one small leisure battery, and a compressor fridge to power as a basic starter point, so off site and no EHU, not even solar will do it (which I have too), if I want to use anything even briefly that uses a reasonable amount of power. Additionally off site, I would normally have to top up the batteries by running the engine quietly in the evening.

The advantage is of course in the event of a power cut I can hook it up to a Calor Cylinder and run the house central heating system, and / or power the fridge/freezer, washing machine etc as needed quite cheaply for a long period. I just stick it all into the dog house.

also think about your power use

if tv is on do you really need lights on
do you need two lights on when one will do

i have blown air heating and its not hard on battery power

careful if thinking of invertors, they may use amps to work as well as the amps they are producing.

Never used a genny and wild camp regular we dont even carry an electric lead. In winter we use 3 hab batteries and the solar panel, in summer 2 hab batteries and solar, tv uses 240v as does laptop and low wattage electric lights on 300watt invertor wired into 240 circuit. very rarely do we run out of power. One has to be sensible and dont light up like a lighthouse.

I have been in pogonogo's Motorhome and he is telling the truth. Everything works well and he really doesn't have an electric lead.

All very true guys as I said it depends on yourself, your Motorhome or Campervan and what you want to do. I like to run a microwave and an electric toaster alongside the fridge, sometimes using an air fryer etc instead of the microwave, but can't do it with an 85ah leisure battery and no room for anything larger or an additional one elsewhere in the vehicle.
