Here is a point which pops up from time to time as we meet other motorhomers.

Do you go for Melamine or china plates, bowls etc?
Also Plastic or glass drinking vessels (well, can't really call them glasses)?

We use Melamine and plastic to keep weight down and breakages to a minimum but I have had a few surprised faces when giving someone a drink in a plastic (vessel).

I have even seem people bring their own glasses as they dont drink from plastic. I don't mind but it is clearly a problem for some..

What do you do?

Got rid of the plastic camping stuff a good few years ago.
Wine is not the same from a plastic 'glass' and we prefer the steak on a proper plate and the cuppa from a proper cup.
After all, when we are away we are in our motor HOME, so why put up with camping kit.

Melamine for the moment as I don't have room for a microwave....I haven't been Campervanning long enough yet to have a preference.

Has to be glass and china. I hate the feel of plastic crockery and wine from a plastic cup is vile. My old van has a cocktail cupboard with spring clips to hold the wine glasses in place

Melamine cups seem to stain too easily, still using Melamine plates though. We are on proper mugs now, beer still comes out of a can :)

An interesting thread because back in January I said Melamine. I now have a microwave and of course Melamine is not microwave proof.

I have also found that my plates don't get rattled around as much as I thought and like eirebus I also use non slip matting between items to cut down any rattle. I have changed to standard mugs (no problems so far with chips or breakages) but am considering after Christmas changing over to a relatively good china dinnerware set (one that can easily get spares) and removing the Melamine.

I say why spend all this money on a Motorhome and use camping gear - why not enjoy life and relax with the best china and glass. One would never dream of putting a good Bordeaux red in a plastic glass.
