Hubby was at Portglenone Marina today and noticed there was motorhome parking/aire with services, so we were thinking of going back with motorhome and canoe. Does anybody know how to access this aire as there is a barrier in situ? Also is it just day parking or can you overnight (and if so is it advisable)?

It's not open yet, ally will let us know when it's officially open and we are thinking of going en mass to support it.

Sorry , I see this topic has already been raised. Going en masse? There's only about half a dozen spaces, going to be cozy. Keep us posted then.

hi-we called at portglenone on Wednesday 18 june.It is open ----but there are some problems.
there is a locked barrier which means that to get a key there is a ten pound fee (returnable),on top of the first daily fee of twenty pounds!!
there are 6 parking spaces and an astonishing 3 emptying stations.(which require tokens)
there also seems to be the option to stay in the marina carpark (outside the barrier) for ten pounds per day.
We did not stay as there obviously is a fair bit of sorting out to be done.
20 pounds a day for an aires is too much, used to be a nice place to stop,so hopefully it can be reviewed.
(maybe two of the emptying stations could be relocated to provide more aires elsewhere)

Before I moan I must say it is great to have someone take the initiative to provide motorhome facilities.

I agree.
I have said many times, where are these people getting the information from?
They seem to think they are providing a campsite.

Once again, a much better idea.

We went out to Aire on Sunday and rang the number published on poster at barrier
When the lady caretaker arrived she confirmed that cost was £20 per night plus £10 deposit for key
Gate at main road is locked at mid-night, so users locked in overnight

At £20 we told caretaker that it was over priced and did not stay

On Monday morning the caretaker phoned me to say that £20 was not correct
It is £10 per 24 hours including electric and access to facilities
Plus £10 key deposit

What is really needed from Ballymena Council is a price list and fuller published details
Current arrangement is not good with users having to call caretaker and wait for her to arrive from home

The lady caretaker, Kathleen, is very helpful but at end of day is only doing her job
She also told us that we were the 6th MH who had left after finding out that it was £20

Now that it is confirmed at only £10, we may well be back

I suppose £10 is not bad for EHU but many of us don't need EHU and then it's costly. I think Ballymena Council need advice on their pricing structure.

There has clearly been some bad advice given/taken.Six badly designed parking spaces and THREE sets of toilet facilitys says it all.
However the intentions can only have been good and given time and enough people contacting the council they hopefully will have a review of the situation.
phone, text and email !!!!!

it is a great place to stay.
