Hi we are thinking of going to France in june. We have a number of clubcard points saved and are thinking of putting them towards irish ferries crossing. Has anyone else done this and is it complicated?

Don't know about irish ferries but I did tesco points against stena line last year and it cost me more. Different price than online price. It would have been better to use points against diesel

It is possible to use Tesco club card points on irish ferries sailings however I would suggest you do the following first.

Don't use the link supplied by Tesco as you will only see limited sailings which are full price.

Go direct to www.irishferries.com and have a look at the dates which suit you. If you are flexible on dates you will find a great difference in the prices from day to day. You may well find that you can get a better deal not using the club card points.

Once you have a total amount for the desired dates try again with the link from Tesco. I think you will be surprised.

I have always found that the Club Points are no use for ferries as you pay the highest price and you can get better value for them inshore.

I think Tesco ClubCard points are a waste of money full stop. Tesco charge more than other stores so you are paying extra to get them.

But that's just me :)

We use clubcard points every year on Irish Ferries and find them really good value. Even though we have a local Tesco with fuel station, we do very little of our weekly shopping there other than fuel purchase.
I switched over to using a Tesco VISA card about 3 years ago and can accrue approx. €100 worth of club card points annually through use of the VISA card. Most of this comes from normal living expenses although I do a small amount of travel with work so there is some foreign hotel charges also. But you would be surprised how much "normal" spend you can put through your card if you remember to.
This is worth €400 in terms of an Irish Ferries ( or Stena to UK and hopefully to France via Celtic Link ferry soon ) fares so its worth having even if the fares are 10% dearer when booked using clubcard points
For example we're booked with IF to Cherbourg return with cabins in mid August for total €523. I had to pay €123 cash and used clubcard points for the rest. May not suit everyone but we're happy with that.

I agree you are paying for your club points at Tesco.
Asda are 10% cheaper than Tesco and if they are not they give you a voucher for the difference.

Go to the Asda price guarantee web page and type in the barcode No on the bottom of your receipt and print your voucher.

I thought we are all clever enough to realise that you get noting for nothing. Tesco is not there for our good no matter what they claim.

Like Voyager we switched to a Tesco Visa card and run all our bills through it. Actually shop at Lidl and Aldi using this card. Vouchers quickly build up. However, have never used them on Irish Ferries as the one time we rang there was a dearer different price if using vouchers and also more importantly we were told if you changed your dates or canceled, there would be no refund etc on the fare. Decided to stick with Celtic Ferries. Highly recommend their flexibility and hoping that the Stena take over doesn't change this too much!!
