One or two on here have used Tollymore regularly so should be able to help you our with your specific questions.

Surfindirt I believe is now closed Mark, but castlewellan forest park has some great walks and dont forget to try the maze at the main carpark.

Castlewellan is the business for motorhomes
We read the trip adviser and there were a few horror stories in there - so i phoned ahead and asked was there night security and what of an awning? I was told to ask the Warden when i got here and fine for awnings.

When we arrived (Left at the castle roundabout as not signposted )- i asked the warden of night security and he informed me that as there were not that many campers - it should be fine.

We parked up in the Dove Cote yard and there were a few other motor-homes there - {Motormansions - Big'uns}, and there was another Hymer, 2 Ducatos and a Ford in the neighboring site.

First thing to learn - Although you are booked into the yard - there is no specific space allocated - so if the warden tells you that you are Number 16, it does not mean that you have space 16 Confused me - but then Got parked up - cheese slice levels were required for slope - not dramatic but better for drainage.

The hook up points are in good condition and easily connected to. There are two RCD's at each point.
The water is to be collected at the Dove Cote - the center of the yard and carried over (30 feet) - so a long hose would be handy next time for filling the tanks.
Waste water - a collector tank would be handy to use here although i piped it to a local drain.

Amenities:
Showers - warm, tidy and grand for a forest park which has no security at night times.
Toilets - loo roll provided, cleaned twice daily - great
Chemical disposal point - does what it needs
Cafe - onsite cafe doing lots of nice things, dinner, tea scones - oh nice

Free view pickup - seems grand others were picking up on aerial - we got dish for satellite. Got to watch the rugby as my neighbors were also = full days criac with lots to cheer and cheer about Well done Ireland and thanks BOD :hide:

The campsites were empty - one sole tent'er - and other pitches were stuffed with a happy set of awnings, dogs, motorhomes etc - but the Cote Yard gave security due to the high walls and proximity to other users was great. Good privacy but - its difficult to pin a awning into tarmac Yes - No awnings in the Cote Yard - you are given a Note when checking in
OPEN FIRES/BBQ's / GENERATORS - not happening :sorry:

I didn't notice any fire fighting equipment around although we carry our own - perhaps a hose or two wouldn't be a bad thing? Would stop extinguishers being stolen.

There is the best multi function supermarket/ deli / grocer / butcher / petrol station about 5 minutes walk away where there is a laundrette also. I didn't check out the food takeaways as we got a mini kitchen unit (Double hot plate oven grill) and it is the business as no oven/grill in Hessy before now.

The estate was beautiful - mountain bike runs and easy walks around the lakeside. Fishing :reel: by license and canoes - lots of these - none for hire But good area
With the felling of the trees abundant due to the disease - its a good thing too as it allows you to see Donard/ Binian / Knockchree/ Wee Binian and the rest = BEAUTIFUL

That's about it really - i will try to upload a photo now - but even if it does not happen - i would highly recommend this place at £13 per night all in - excellent value for money

100% Correct PaulH - the entrance is tight as a tight thing!!!

The exit is somewhat similar and you need good brakes / sidewall grip on tyres!!

Thanks for that, not sure my mirrors fold in by much and we're a full 2.5m wide.... I think there's a gate beside the entry so maybe they'd open it for us, I'll give em a call. Hope to get away for a weekend soon and it's so handy being a walk to the town.
