Wind Turbines

 ·
Posted: 24.02.2014  ·  #1
found out today that a planning application has been submitted for a 40M high wind turbine in the field opposite our house. There are around 15 houses which fall within a 300M radius of it and it would be in direct line of my tv aerial to divis transmitter. Anybody know of any guidelines for these things or have the tree huggers got it all stitched up as they are supposidly environmentally freindly.

There are usually associations fighting against all new erections of these and many get turned down
I love to see them but would not like one at the bottom of my garden
Good luck in getting the result you want

I'd like to see them...... 2 miles off shore.

I used to like "the idea" of wind powered electricity, but now, after noticing our beautiful mountain ranges are being defaced by towering wind turbines, I've changed my mind... Take a drive through West Cork and Kerry and all you see are those bloody monstrosities...

Not a fan.

(excuse the pun)

Have to agree with every thing you say far better off shore and most certainly should not be allowed in Areas of Natural Beauty.
I wonder if it is the same in Ireland as here, I understand that the land owners get GBP40,000 p.a. for each turbine they allow to be erected so it doesn't take a lot of brain power to understand why farmers who have lost a lot of their income grab at sticking 20 or more of these dam things on their land.
I am not condoning or condemning their actions

£40000 does not sound right, sure you could retire on 1 or 2 of them on your land ;-)

John, if you're close enough, the noise pollution act can be envoked. My sister had one stopped beside her in North Kerry based on noise grounds. I don't know if you've ever been near one but the noise would be the biggest problem for me if it were to be built beside me.

On looking into planning objections I have discovered that if I got a petition with 1000 signatories on it it would still be only one objection, so there will be two from our house, five from next door etc etc. I sent mine off on the grounds of environmental impact relating to the flight paths of migrating birds and the ineffective research carried out by the rspb who had no objections! I also brought up health and safety issues relating to noise, ice throw and potential blade failure in the proximity of the residential properties. Angela has gone for noise pollution and the detriment to the health of everyone local to it and the overall proximity to property when parliament are considering a 1km exclusion area.

Get onto Belfast International Airport, they have managed to block Wind Turbines, Farm Buildings, Houses, Garages, Parking, Farms and anything else they don't get any money from, within a massive radius of the airport.

Don't know if it is true! I was told that when the sun is shining on them as they turn the reflection can act like a strobe light flashing through windows.

I am a Farmer and never heard of anyone getting €40,000 per turbine, Most are erected high up on hills and mountains where there isn't much farming going on anyway. I have heard of the owners of these turbines giving generous contributions to communities for their support all right.

City Airport, International Airport, MOD, BBC, BT, NATS (Air traffic control) etc all have been "Consulted" and have no objections.

That formed part of Angela's objection, you cant even state that it would ruin your view, you can however say it diminishes your visual amenity. The letters from planning where supposed to have been issued on 12th Dec but our neighbor next door only got theirs yesterday! We didnt get one as we are outside the 200m radius (just!)

Pat

I came across the £40,000 in a article in the Guardian
http://www.theguardian.com/env…landowners.

We are having a different problem in Somerset with them want to erect Pylons across our lovely countryside and not just normal ones which take 25,000 volts at about 40-50 ft high but massive b-g--rs up to 120ft high to take 40,000 volts from Hinckley
and I remembered reading it.
After looking again you are right it doesn't actually say that is how much they get but COULD get.

The Airport bit interests me as we don't have windmills around here to the best of my knowledge but we do have Bristol Int Airport about 5 miles away so this could explain it.

f c it would be worth your while to drive out to any wind farms that are close to you and listen to the sound from three or four hundred yds away whoosh ,,,whoosh ..the noise of the blades can even stop you sleeping ,it gets into your head, stayed in a house beside one [good b+b] and had to move after two nights could not stick it any longer, wishing you the best in your fight, yhey should cop on and put the windfarm offshore like they did off arklow co wicklow, john

200m?

Are you saying they are planning to put up a turbine >200m from your home?

I could NOT put up with that noise.

Yes Kevin, we are about 210 from it but others are just under 200 and the guy across the road is about 150 from it.

It is awful that they can do this can they not do this out in the ocean or away from people and our lovely countryside. We are having huge opposition to the new pylons down here the commeragh mountains will be ruined by the time they are finished - no underground here it would cost too much. FC I hope you don't have to have them so close as that will definitely impact your quality of life.

I am sure that you must have gone down this route but there are a lot of points which may help when you read the wording of the objection letters

All I can advise is to keep fighting we have won that some will now go underground after loosing the fight on costs for it all to go underwater up the Bristol Channel

That thought has crossed my mind especially when all the letters regarding consultation have either no address or signed by anyone!
