Sealant

Hi all...time do do a bit of work on the motorhome before i hit the road again ...I inherited it from my dad who passed away late last year...Anyhow I notice a few place outside have the white sealant falling off...and I see it has turned slighly black in other places. I assume its not normaly silicone sealant I should be using..Any advise on what I should get would be great.
Also end of last year some water (tiny amount) seemed to come down the inside of the pole that moves the satelite dish up and down. In fact the water got into where the numbers are on the pole...You turn a little know to alter the angle of the dish is the best I can explain it. The ceiling is dry above it so i assume its comming down th epol itself..any ideas on how to repair it?

Any help would be great...total novice here

Dont use any silicon sealant as you have found out it shrinks, discolours and comes off after a period of time. There are specialised ones for motorhomes/boats etc from memory CT1 is one which I know works well and is manufactured in Ireland! and another is Sikaflex, but so many different types I couldnt advise which one.

For the water running down the pole its probably a sealant issue and just needs cleaned and resealed.

As John said, Wurths Bond and Seal is mighty stuff and as Stuart said people need to put in their location to their profile to get accurate advice and I say you can buy it over the counter at Wurths in Limerick.

Is it a status by any chance?

If this is what your problem looks like then water is getting into the unit itself. Minor problem on the scale of things. Basically you will need to disassemble it and reseal with Wurth bond and seal or similar.

Hi Don, Sorry to hear about your Dad!
I have used the Wurth bond and seal to stick down and extend a fiberglass roof with an overcab bed onto a Mercedes 410 van, it was rock solid, a bulldozer wouldnt shift it. it comes in white or black.
I see you are from Bandon, How is the new Aire doing? Is it near the Town?

Thanks everyone...Ithe advise is really helpful. Should I hack away any sealant that is already on the motorhome or leave well enough alone and replace only where I see its needed. No water is leaking into the motorhome at all. .....That aires is a stones throw from the town. It is the car park of a garage. I have ony seen it used a few times...I think its good that places are comming around to the idea of attracting motorhomers

Jimbob, remove all the old stuff and start afresh as it will save having to do the work again when the old stuff you would leave needs to be replaced

If you are using it on the outside of the van mask both sides of the joint with masking paper as it is terrible messy stuff and very hard to get of.
