Hymer Leak

 ·
Posted: 05.02.2014  ·  #1
Hi folks

Just discovered my 1993 Hymer (think its a 544) has a small leak from the drivers window. I want to pop to the window frame out clean it up and reset it. To that end does anyone know where I can get some black Sikaflex 292/252 from (thats what Sikaflex said I should use). The leak has been there for a while looking at the state of the ply over the dash so that will need replacing as well but until the leak is fixed there is n point doing anything else.

Many thanks

Phil

And some heat as cold air contains more moisture, it will take time to dry out completely but you will get there.

FC I'm afraid you are wrong about that. Warm air contains more water vapour than cold air.

That's why your windows only steam up when the air is hot inside. The hot air cooling when it hits the glass releases its water vapour content. The reverse is the condensation forming on the glass of a cold drink on a hot day or in a hot room.

Same with rain. Warm air rises and as it does it cools when it cools to the point where the water vapour is released we get precipitation. Thus the high air, which is now cooler than is was, now has less water vapour.

It also explain why motorhomers who camp in very cold temperatures (eg when skiing) are advised to let cold air blow through the van once a day as it helps to prevent moisture build up.

I stand corrected, as I was going by the dehumidifier which when the air is cold removes almost 3 times the water than when the van is warm.

Ok but you have to consider relative humidity, recent precipitation (sources of water), the fact that your van is not a sealed environment and how your dehumidifier works. But if you sealed your van completely then you would get a smaller amount of water in the reservoir when the air temp is lower.

But what is happening is the dehumidifier is lowering the air temp to remove the water vapour and then reheating the air before expelling back out. But the van is not a sealed environment and is constantly drawing in air and moisture from the outside. So the now ambient dry air reabsorbs the moisture and away you go again.

Kinda reminds me of the phrase related to doing ones business into the wind.
