Liz and I stayed there a few years ago and it was a great well run site and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the whole area.

Called in there once for a nosey, when we used to camp with the Trooper and the American Sportz tent attached to the rear, while camping in that area. It was a very impressive site alright.

There are some great coastal wild camping spots all within 4-5km of that site Siobhan, if you get the notion...

Look up the "Speckled door" pub in garrylucas/Garretstown. Fine sized car park outside and I'm told they don't mind campers overnighting outside if you're willing to avail of their patronage.

Edit - The Speckled door pub is in the POI's.

Stayed there for last August bank holiday weekend. Lovely location. Small shop on site and takeaway open in the evenings for burgers, fish, chips etc. There was a kids disco in the evenings. There was a really nice communal room in the old house building- with selection of books available. Lots of mobiles on site so was busy. The site is on quite a slope but pitches are level enough. There is a nice beach about 1km from site. There were about 30 vans wild camping there too but they were squeezed in like sardines, given the weekend.

Yeah voyager that's what I hate to be cramped in by others and it sometimes happens on Aires in France.

We stayed there last summer. The site is on some slope, but once you're at the touring pitches it's not too bad. For the summer that was in it, it was good - we spent most of the days at the beach (our then 4 and 5 year old managed the walk fine without too much moaning). I think they have a kids club in the mornings, and the missus took the kids to the disco one of the nights, but the weather was so good there was enough to do. The village is about the same walk again in the other direction, but without the footpaths, so I did that on the bike. The village has a well stocked centra and a few other shops. You could drive to the beach, but there was that many wildcampers, it'd be a struggle to get parked! I don't know if that's the norm or due to the summer - as was said they are very close together - you'd be hardpressed to open the door between some of them.

One downside of the site is that it's mainly a static/ mobile home site, so you do get the packs of children/ teenages roaming around in the evenings - they weren't any trouble, but they could be noisy when trying to settle ours. Also the water wasn't the hottest in the showers at times - not the best when you have to pay for them too.

We would probably go back, as there was a surf school there that seemed very set up for families. There was no surf the days we were there though!
