I hope it is a photo shop stunt and is not real.... I feel so sad that anyone would do this to anything human or creature so sad.
The gang mentality is awful.
I went to see the movie "twelve years a slave" and could not talk after it for a few hours after....

Sorry to break it to you but its very real, its an annual event in Japan. I think its a barbaric and antiquated ritual which has no place in todays society.

I am all about keeping cultures if it does not do harm but this I am sorry I can not condone, what can we do to help stop this.
I understand that others should not try and stop others live their lives as they wish and I like to think of myself as a tolerant person who believes in live and let live....but this goes against everything I believe in ...live and let LIVE.
It made me cry. I hate any kind of violence in any shape or form.

If you eat them, whats the issue?
I bet if you went along to any of the big meat factories processing Cattle or Pigs you'd see a lot of stuff that would have the same effect.
Its just that People don't like to see blood, in a factory its all hidden behind walls and you never see it happen but its the same thing.

I don't think it is the same read it again these do not die quickly and it is not about food.
Sorry I am not a veggie hippie type, I don't like to think of this kind of suffering.
I grew up around farms and we had many animals and some ended up in our freezer but not in this fashion.
I do not want to argue with anyone! I was shocked at the way in which these poor creatures were slaughtered and why.

Was it violent, just been to see the wolf of wall st ,very good very funny in parts, over 3 hr long
They are pilot whales driven in and up the fjords to shore by a flotilla of private boats. It's the Faroe Islands (although under the sovereignty of Denmark) and in fairness, regardless of what the incorrect script reads, they actually eat every single bit. The dried meat and blubber sustains them for the whole year in actual fact after it's been distributed equally around the community, you don't enter a local home there without being offered (& more importantly accepting)
a lump of it, it's very tasty & like fish jerky! I've been there and asked the people about the practice. It's been happening for about 500 years and it's not something they are going to give up EVER. Contrary to how it may look these people are very respectful and greatful to these animals for the sustinance too, much more so than we are to Larry the lamb or Harriet the heifer! It's a hard life up there....
It's also inaccurate in so much as the first blow, direct to the bottom of the brain/spinal cord, kills the animal instantly - the other incisions are to aid blood drainage while the heart still pumps a while. It looks much much worse but is not that dissimilar to what goes on in a livestock slaughter house - I'm very familiar with those practises too.
I think we need to be more accepting of other people's cultural history, some of what we may do might not look great to others either. Regardless of all that, it's not something I agree with. I would have up to 50 years ago and before as it was their only source of protein harvest for the year. Not now though, they can import all the meat they want on daily ferry arrivals and airport landings.
.....then again, that meat was a living animal not too long ago too.

You have to have an open mind, not everything that another culture does will be acceptable here and the reverse is also true.
Hindu's would be horrified at the consumption of cattle as they revere them, does that stop me tucking into a steak or burger? No.
If the Faeroese decide that they want to eat pilot whales then who am I say to say that they should stop because I don't like the imagery?
Pilot whales are not endangered and stocks are healthy, estimated at over 700,000 in the North Atlantic.
Is the few that the Faeroe islanders take going to make them extinct? Not a chance.
I would say more are killed by Military communications and strandings than are eaten by the Islanders.

Usually I have no problem with killing anything for food so long as it's dispatched quickly but I,m still not too sure about this. Check out the story here http://www.snopes.com/photos/hunting/dolphinhunt.asp
