I assume this is for laptop use as it has a usb plug. I never take the laptop but would be interested to hear how you get on. There might be an adapter for Ian to my phone.

Yeah for the laptop.

All depending on what wifi is around me whether it will be any good, but I have BT Business Broadband so I get free minutes on BT Openzone and BTFon. So if I can pick any of them up then I am landed.

I use the WiFi Hotspot on my phone to connect laptop to the net but 3G coverage around campsites or rural area's is usually rubbish.

I was thinking of something for use while outside home network. Some campsite WiFi signals are weak and you need to get close to the signal source.

We use viber to keep in touch when on WiFi and roaming charges are too much for that.

Ok ordered Friday, delivered Saturday morning!! ( I was away, just collected it from PO)

Haven't tried it yet but a point to note... I ordered from here http://www.faculty-x.net/NET-WL-ROCKET_BG and was expecting the suction cups to come with it, seems they don't. It's not an attractive bracket to say the least and there is no way I am screwing that to the side of my MH.

Going to email and ask if they do the suction cups as they were very fast at delivery!

I see here.. http://www.solwise.co.uk/wireless-usb-rocket-b-g.htm you can buy the suction cups with it.

I see this note on the link you provided..

Not designed to be a permanently mounted outside when mobile but is ideal when stationary to pop outside to get a clear signal

Suction cups would be a good idea.

Bought some strong velcro strips from homebase.

On a campsite in Newcastle, laptop is getting between no bars and one bar, with aerial going between 3 and 4 (out of 5)

Yeah I would say it is, would like to do a few more tests though.

Was on Windsor in Newcastle. Did'nt get a chance to test it anywhere else.

Used this over the weekend, connected to a BTFON EVENTUALLY!

I think it will be handy to have but not something to reply on by any means, I was just to far away from the nearest connection and when I thought about it, I am trying to pull a signal from what is basically a router with a small aerial. So ok as a backup if you are close enough and would be great for site WiFi to boost your signal.

does this antenna over-ride the wireless activation on the laptop OR do you leave it activated and plug the antenna in? :?:

You can leave it on, the laptop will show as having two WiFi adapters, and you can pick which one to use. This was with Win7.

The drivers I received with it don't seem to work to well with WIN7 and it took a bit of fiddling to get it to work correctly.

I think this one would be a better buy ....

BTopenzone may or may not be always on as well. They can be anywhere that has business broadband a home, pub, cafe. Still relying on a tiny Router aerial giving you a signal.

Ok today i took the laptop down to our summerhouse at the bottom of the garden we never get wifi connection from there as its a good 60 meters from the kitchen where the BT home hub is.

Glad to hear it's good, I would say it would be a lot better than the one I got.

I think they are worth having as a backup to everything else, MIFI, dongle, 3GHotspot on phone.

If they would just give us the 3G service we are meant to have we wouldn't need to carry the contents of the Gadget shop around with us

Or even better, 4G.
