Thank God For FM Radio!
Is it my unit or does DAB radio loose signal as you drive through the country?
There are some classic radio stations - but the hit and miss has driven me back to FM.
Has anyone stuck on their unit the outside DAB aerials and if so, do they make a difference?
Thanks

Never had a DAB radio in the car. Even the DAB radio in the house is a bit sensitive to aerial placement.
I live in a rural region - perhaps the signal is better in the cities or large urban areas ! :)

I heard the uk government are not turning off the fm band just yet as improvements need to be made to the service as well as fewer people and vehicle manufacturers not getting the equipment out there

In my experience Dab radio is a waste of time. Have one sitting in the house and get much better reception on my iPad.

DAB works great here without an aerial. But our TV is also a great signal, must be just in a good spot. Now the internet is a different story............... can't have it all.

I have a dab radio in the house which is used everyday and a brilliant clear reception that does not drift away like the other radios. Thinking about buying one for the MH to see how it goes.

At home DAB is a bit hit and miss, I can get some channels but not all which is similar to the Freeview TV.

Best thing I would suggest is to borrow one and see how it works at home and the sort of channels you can get, I got one thinking I was missing out and to be honest I would have been better getting beter speakers for the pc and streaming the radio over the internet

I have a small one for when working in different locations and it's like an ashtray on a honda 50, very hit and miss,

So now I use the auld Nokia phone with the small speakers that came with it and it will get some kind of a tune on it,

Maybe things will improve in the future,

Hi I fitted a proper powered digital aerial to the roof of my MH and found it transformed DAB reception , before it I use the stuck on screen type that was useless, travelling up to Scotland for Easter so that will be the real test,

Wondered about this......

Nearly all Status 5** aerials come with an FM digital option, can this be wired for DAB?

How can you travel with the fm aerial pulled out especially when its fitted to the outer side of the roof?????. I,m sure it would work if wired into the radio.

Hi all - On the receiver unit I got there are two different aerial sockets - the familiar FM one and a DAB one. The DAB one is extremely small and a clip on nipple type - V Small and unique to this Aerial fitting.

Also the DAB signal is longitudinal wave sine different to the FM which is lateral Sine wave - that's why with the digital switch over - everyone needed to turn their TV aerials 90 degrees.

I have the electrical boosted BOSCH window aerial installed - however its sticky antenna is on the horizontal and DAB requires the Vertical axis reception - so i am searching for a separate sticky antenna and a lead splitter (easy got from world - bay).

In the meantime - i got the fitting from world-bay and made my own antenna with co-ax and two sets of integral stripped hoops on the vertical - similar to a crazy straw if you remember them.

It works when stationary with about two dozen channels available - on the move is useless - FM all the way
