panel van conversion questions.

Hello folks and happy new year,
As i mentioned in the welcome section a few weeks back we plan to buy a panel van [primastar, traffic, vivaro or along these lines] and get a decent fit-out.it will be our main vehicle. As we are boaters we understand most of the practicality's but are wondering if you can give us any recommendations for fit out company's or any advice in general would be much appreciated.
i know that the vw transporter seems to be the vehicle of choice but when the smaller space and higher price are taken in to account i dont really see the point.looking forward to any suggestions.thanks in advance.

Hi Paul,I have a conversion myself based on the citroen relay van,you should have a look at the SBMCC site to get a few ideas before you undertake your conversion.

Thanks for the links,Waterman and petie.they give some good ideas. At the moment we are living in Dublin and are constrained by a height restriction on which van we buy and although i can do an acceptable bit of carpentry etc, myself i do not have the space or time to do a self conversion at the moment but in maybe five years time we would plan on getting something bigger and this would be the way i would go.
we are thinking on a fairly standard layout and would buy an annex tent for a bit more space and a toilet tent for a porta potti.240 hook up.leisure battery with charger.12v lighting,a small invertor, sink and hob with a proper camping stove for the annex, eberspacher or propex heater[not sure yet]maybe a pop top but with the height restriction probably not.insulation.12v submersible pump for potable water, storage to include a small outboard engine and dinghy.rock and roll bed.my wife is thinking on the crash test one with seatbelts but i am not convinced with the price just to carry passengers once or twice a year.
i have researched conversion companies on line but have no experience of any of them and was hoping for some feedback or recommendations from someone who has experience of them.please feel free to pm me if you like.
any thought or advice on this plan, folks?
Paul.

The only one I know of their work is Tomlins but they are quite a bit from you.

I think there are one or two conversion companies at the holiday world show, check the list of exhibitors before going.

A friend of mine had a conversion done by Tomlins about 18 months ago and it was a disaster.

He has to take it to Simon (who I wanted him to go to from the start) to get all the problems fixed.
There were quite a few problems including leaks and awning height issues. His biggest gripe was gas installation which was not up to standard.

When he contacted Tomlins they were rude to him and then refused to answer his emails.

Yeah Simon has built as few conversions in the past during the winter months when things were quiet for him.
