You are probably correct, mind you I do take care of the motorhome but clothes I couldnt give a toot

Nearly all diesels have a high speed idle, usually controlled by a relay on cold start up to prevent the cold engine from stalling and dying out and lessen engine wear.

This months MMM pg 186 has a letter about a 1996 Hymer 2.5 td. Although it does not have the same question, the expert explains that a range of these engines including the later 2.8 do not have glow plugs but have 5 injectors, the fifth one being in the inlet manifold which acts as a cold start /preheat device which enriches the fuel during cold starts.

Suddenly realised that I had a transit years ago which did not have the heater timer thing on the dash. It was simply turn the key and go. Direct injection it was called
