Is there a auto choke on the 2.5TD Fait Ducato Engine?
Is there a choke on a Diesel?
Why I ask is when I drive around - big runs(City to Sligo) or whatever around town - my temperature sits about 70 degrees , not half way on the dial (90 degrees).
I changed the refrigerant to the max mixture to deal with minus 15 in case it happens, before hand flushed it out twice and then filled her up.

I ran her the other day three times and the fans kicked in as should at 90 degrees - I was so happy to know that they worked at the correct time and that the protection was there if needed.

However - if an auto choke which cuts out say at 80 degrees - I am sucking more diesel than required and a new circulation pump/thermostat - whatever may be required.

Any views welcome?

As far as I'm aware there's no choke on a Diesel engine but there's glow plugs which apparently do the same kinda thing.

Glow plugs aid the ignition of the diesel under pressure. If you think it's running hot take it to a commercial vehicle garage as the vehicle is more van than car

The glow plug is only there to help warm the block to aid running, it only comes on for a short time when you start the engine if the engine has cooled down and then switches itself off.
Found this on in ter nit

Diesel engines, unlike gas engines do not have any spark plugs. The reason that they do not need a spark plug is because in diesel engines, the air is compressed much, much more than in a gas engine. The more that you compress the air, the more that the air is heated. Diesel engines have so much compression that the air inside of your cylinder becomes super heated and there is no need for a spark plug. The air is so hot that when the diesel fuel is injected into the cylinder, the diesel fuel ignites and the piston is pushed down via the "explosion" that takes place when the piston reaches tdc(top dead center).
Because of this, diesel engines need to warm up. This is why diesel engines have glow plugs. The glow plugs warm the block and help the engine to heat up faster

Hessy, as you are based in Belfast a good commercial vehicle garage is J&F Trucks at Mallusk, they do all my servicing and do not charge the earth and have found them to be totally honest.

Thanks for the assistance and the contacts as a decent garages for getting work done are few and far between.
I have got Gormleys of Dungannon to do my Pinions, Struts, CV Boots, Steering Rack Boots, Engine Mounts and a couple of other things - they were Awesome!!
Really - Noel and the chaps did a brilliant job - Totally great - Price - timing - facilities - communication - COULD not have done a better job. 100% Recommend
Driving my unit up the motorway was a total pleasure - Gearbox doing what it should, location of gears, feeling on the wheel - Loved it.
I try and do what I can in it, and what I cant - I hand it over to the professionals.

Remember WD40 is a water displacement chemical, not a lubricant (hence the initials w d )

Just looked this up

It was developed in 1953 by Dr. Norm Larsen, founder of the Rocket Chemical Company, in San Diego, California. WD-40, abbreviated from the phrase "Water Displacement, 40th formula," was originally designed to repel water and prevent corrosion, and later was found to have numerous household uses.

Larsen was attempting to create a formula to prevent corrosion in nuclear missiles, by displacing the standing water that causes it. He claims he arrived at a successful formula on his 40th attempt.[3] WD-40 is primarily composed of various hydrocarbons.

WD-40 was first used by Convair to protect the outer skin, and more importantly, the paper thin "balloon tanks" of the Atlas missile from rust and corrosion. These stainless steel fuel tanks were so thin that, when empty, they had to be kept inflated with nitrogen gas to prevent their collapse.

WD-40 first became commercially available on store shelves in San Diego in 1958.

And there is no doubt a brilliant product, for the mere mortals who don't have oxy/acetylene it has got us out of a few tight spots. I usually have a can of it somewhere even the motorhome

Especially on new white goods. I watched a woman struggle with removing the residue glue after peeling the label of a new washing machine. Despite the entertainment I had to draw the line after 10 minutes when she took a knife from the drawer to scratch it off. I blasted it with WD40 and gave it a quick rub with a rag removing all traces. I expected gratitude but all I got was a mouthful of abuse for not intervening earlier. You just can't win.
