I really like this website. I often head out for spins on the bike with the intention of finding the locations of the Lawrence photo's and seeing what it looks like now...

You can filter it by region to narrow it down a bit to suit your own locality.

http://catalogue.nli.ie/Search…&view=grid

"The Lawrence Collection consists of 40,000 glass plate negatives from 1870-1914. The images were produced commercially and capture scenes of that period throughout Ireland. The bulk of the outdoor images were taken by Robert French, the Lawrences' chief photographer."

Here are a few of my before/after shots - (the colour photos are mine)

That is a very interesting thing to do Kevin.
You have gone to a lot of effort there.

I am sure you have had a few difficulties.

Its usually just a handy tool to pick a destination for a spin on the bike...

But in terms of effort, I guess sometimes it is a bit awkward to frame up the shot exactly as the original ones. Often there are trees or new buildings in the way. Also, the aspect ratio of the original glass plate camera is something I cant reproduce with my little digital pocket camera, but I get as close as I can.

A handy little past time when the mood takes me. I haven't done one in a while now, I must get out and do another few...

Great to see those contrasts, especially Crosshaven as we have overnighted there 2013 and 12.

Really enjoy the cycle along the old railway track.

Thanks.

Lovely b&w photos.
It's a shame that traffic lights etc spoil the modern version.

I think there could be a gradual return to black and white pics as there's something about them that colour doesn't have.

I use a lot of black and white - I love them!
Actually that is a thought.... off to ask Lawrence if he has ever considered converting his to black and white.

Blag have you ever thought of converting your colored to black and white out of interest and then looking at them?
Just out of curiosity?

Now that is class I love it!
Black and white really shows the difference even more.
Have you shared these with the local communities I bet you could do an exhibit there.
People love these - there is a facebook page for the local Dungarvan area

Great seeing them in B&W as shivster says really shows off the difference between then and now.
