Suspension

Good Evening World of Experience -
Fiat 290 Chassis Query :-)
Has anyone replaced their original front suspension - did you replace exactly as is or were you able to change to "modern" ones? Has their been any developments in suspension capability in 20 years since these were manufactured?
I am guessing with our fantastic road conditions here (and there) that the Coils would begin to get metal fatigue and may need replacing or would they handle another few years. Similarly - Would the hydraulic oil degrade too?

What off the Lever Springs at rear - I have seen an Air assembly for sale on www world to allow better cornering and softer ride - anyone installed and if so - what are they like?

Thanks

I cant see there being much change in the front suspension over the years but the rear has definatly improved my first van was a 92 and it was quite difficult to handle with no rear shocks it just bounced around ,the next van was a 98 with shocks much better, now i have an 05 with air suspension and a dream to drive so i would consider getting air susp. for the rear if you intend to keep the van for a few yrs. i think you can DIY for about €500

If the coils are the original ones it might be worth changing them if you are doing work to the front, better to do it once rather than twice

Thanks Guys - I am still getting used to handling and haven't had a skid/ emergency stop / slide at an icy corner to deal with. >_<
It was and is fine in a car / on a KH250 / and on Dundrod - but a 3.5 in hand I wanna handle if and when needs must

Does the Air suspension help with rattles in the Van?
We have a transit based rollerteam.. and i am thinking of adding an air kit to the rear - they look handy and i like the fact that you can also use them for height adjustment for boarding ferries and that..

Yeah it certainly makes a fantastic difference throughout the whole van - handling driving experience and rattles. I highly recommend it I've got AS and it's great.

Good Morniong All
Hessy Hymer get her suspension struts (Front and Rear) and her leaf spring rubbers replaced during the week and OMG 8-) Absolutely unbelievable the difference in handling / feel / cornering / stopping distance and noise levels

It is quite awesome and a wonderful job done by Gormleys of Dungannon who when they were there stripped out regreased my driveshafts when there as @Hessy threw her snaprings when negotiating the numerous roundabouts :'( :cense: of Normady during Easter.

Also Thanks  to Tristan for support and guidance during the France Trip :-) as the driveshaft snaprings were doing negative dings to my french driving karma 😠
