Has anyone stuck on Snow Tyres for the motorhome or are you all chain/belt users.
Don't think we are out of the Snow Woods yet?

If so - What are your tips - Tyres or chains?

Where is the best place to get the tyres - and ARE THEY REALLY CHEAPER IN SUMMER?

Camskill on the net are cheapest, then do your deal with your local man to fit etc.

I live in Kazakhstan Hessy and right this minute on my balcony it's -28*C. My RV is at home but I drive a Cayenne here and in early October EVERYONE must change to, at the very minimum, snow & ice tyres. It's the law. They really really do work when you need them. I'd never be tempted to change to them at home because we just don't see enough snow. We'd get Ireland's average annual fall here in a afternoon, easy! Just please note that they're a different composition of rubber and of attached tread so they really don't wear well on hot summer asphalt, we can see up to 50*C here in the height of summer. They actually fall apart and you'd often hear chunks of tyre hit the underside of the jeep at speed.

They're great if you need them so.... Your call but they're rubbish if you don't, if ya get my DRIFT.

boom boom. :D

I put two on the daily last month, the seller said shove them in a shed and keep them in the dark over the summer, although I probably be too lazy to change them and will have to buy more next winter. I park the daily up from may to Sept anyway and drive either the van or classic.
Ally posted a clip on a previous post with two ford kugas at the Milton Keynes indoor ski slopes and the tyre performance was unreal, the two wheel drive with and without snow tyres and the awd similarly shod. Both went only meters without whilst with they went almost to the top with the awd only managing a few meters more.

I'd believe that Chevy but one thing, and maybe it's a scare tactic to get you to buy four but I have heard it in the Porsche circles at home too.

They insist that 2 are almost worse than none here, and they know about this subject. I know nothing.... But it might be worth checking out.

I heard that too Whippy and asked the seller, a Bulgarian guy who was having 2 fitted at the same time and Google, who all said it is probably a sales tactic. As long as you are sensible and don't behave like you have F1 downforce I hope that the rear won't push past me on a bend. The kugas clip by motoring journalists only fitted two on the 2wheel drive
Mines front wheel drive so tyres would assist drive and steering

I heard that if you fit snow tyres to your vehicle you need to inform your insurance company. Does anyone know if this is true?

A few years ago an insurance company put out a statement that insurance would be void if winter tyres were fitted as people who did this were venturing out in weather that they would not normally be able to drive in. They said this was increasing their risk. Publicity and public outcry made them retract the statement, however I haven't checked with mine but with two claims at the rear end of last year they don't need any more excuse to ride me.

I think common sense & indeed equalisation across countries would render your theory/rumour not only invalid jack but down right stupid. I'd happily take my chances against them on that one now. Especially considering it's the law at certain times of the year in a lot of European countries.

Maybe, but... Can't see it.

The thing is though we don't get snow the way parts of Europe get it, usually a few days and it's all gone.

Yeah but look at last year on the 20th March I got stuck outside Newry coming back from Bordeaux with the Mehari and had to get B&B. With climate change I think we are going to get more and more snow, colder winters and warmer summers.

But you were towing a car which makes snow driving very difficult. With work having a fleet of everything from article lorries to small vans and cars we have never put snow tyres or chains on them and only had one article stuck when the idiot driver decided to cross the mournes in a blizzard
