Anyone thinking of attending the show in the RDS, I have a couple of complimentary tickets provided by Donaghey's. Tickets are for the show in Dublin on 24th to 26th of January. Give me a shout and I will post them to anyone who wants them.

I am thinking of going to Dublin as I can't make the Belfast one, not really for the Motorhomes but to see if there are any holiday bargains. Considering staying at howth and taking the dart in.

In case anyone is thinking of going I took the list of exhibitors relating to caravans and motorhomes, and removed holiday parks and caravan only stuff to give an idea of who is going to be there. You can make your own mind up if its worth it or not.
I'm interested in going on friday after 4pm. I only need one ticket. I work down the road in Enable Ireland so I'll stroll up after work. It might be easier to leave a ticket at the front desk in the RDS under my name (Michael Reidy) rather than posting it out. If there any other takers who want to go for the whole day or are travelling to Dublin for it please put them ahead of me in the queu.

Hi Folks, does anyone have an opinion (strange question on this site!) on the Holiday show in Dublin, compared to the one in Belfast? Went to the Belfast one on Saturday and was very disappointed at the small number of stalls.
Is the Dublin show likely to be any bigger?
Regards

I don't know about the Dublin one but not much at Belfast to interest motor homers. We tried to get into a few motor homes to have a look and couldn't for children running around, sitting and standing on seats and pulling knobs and door handles. I wouldn't like to but a motorhome that was in a show. I think the Dublin one is a bit smaller from what I'm lead to believe.

Yeah I agree Ally it wasn't great but when one did not have to pay to get in it eased the pain. Why can't we put on something better? Very few motorhomes and everything was in one hall.

I posted a link to the exhibitors which may relate to motorhomers and to be hones Dublin had less than Belfast, I had thought about staying at howth and taking the dart in but after hearing about Belfast I have changed my mind and will not be attending

I think it's typical of here. Just not enough people to warrant it. Probably the worst show I went to would of been the Motorcycle show in Antrim, now that was exceptionally crap.
Thanks for your opinions lads. You may have just saved us from a lot of disappointment. We were half thinking about heading up for a look, but changed our minds now. I guess that explains why there's so many complimentary tickets floating around at the moment.

I went to the Dublin show a few years ago there was plenty of holidays but we are only interested in the motorhomes and there was not much to see so not worth the bother

We went last year, didn't think much of it and we were given complimentary tickets in the queue going in, everybody appeared to be getting them.

If I were you I wouldn't bother going. If Belfast is anything to go by you'll not be missing much although it was better than last year.
But that would not have been hard to do. Any photos of various stands which I have seen did not have any people around them so i hope they were taken before it opened to the public.

Hi Folks, thanks for that.
Thought it was just me being critical - but the Belfast show was total toilet material. (imo)
Alhougth the Cruise holiday stands were doing great business, there was little in the way of accessories. There were a lot of hotels and Ireland regions promoting themselves, but little to do with camping. Reasonable show of motorhomes and those other fibreglass boxes with wheels. It was good to see Donagheys back in Belfast. Overall I and brother and sister-in-law were very disappointed.
Two things we did like about the show,
one complimentary tickets from Donagheys (thank you) and token in the Tele
two - the beautiful eagle.
Its like your local newspaper - if you don't get it you think your missing something,
if you do get it, you wonder why you bothered.

There will always be people who go to these type of shows as they think they may miss out on something if they don't go, however if a poll was taken on their way out I wonder how many would actually want to go back. For anyone serious about buying a caravan or motorhome you are better going direct to the dealers or going to England to the big shows. When I bought my big caravan I had to go to England to see them as the main dealer here only brought in what a customer ordered and the was no way I was spending big money on something I hadn't physically seen. I bought it in Scotland and brought it home. If I was buying a new van there is no doubt depending on the make I would not use the show here as a guide.

In buying the caravan we spent 3 days going around the various dealers looking at the different makes and layouts, ended up buying in Scotland and saved around £8K than buying here.
With the motorhome we spent a full day at Donaghy's looking at the various layouts, makes and models as they have the largest stock from all of the dealers, we found the layout and make we loved the most and left it at that as we couldnt afford it at that time, but a couple of months later I got the deal I couldnt refuse on the very same one we loved at Donaghys except a couple of years younger.
Both of those experiences only highlight to me the inadequacy of the majority of dealers and the shows which we get. I really think that the open weekend which donaghys put on will be missed and they probably would have sold more motorhomes at that than at the Belfast and dublin shows
