Some like Garmin and others tomtom, best thing is to go to the likes of halfords and look at them and try them out. There are a few for Motorhomes/caravans which allow you to input the vehicle dimensions, but to me the best thing is to get one with lifetime map updates

I was in Halfords in a Lisburn today and they seem to have good offers on sat navs but I'm not sure where you are located.

Garmin Dezl I use and love it, has the dimensions of the Motorhome inputed. But I don;t think there is one that is perfect.

I have found the Bluetooth in sat navs not to be as good as the dedicated Bluetooth units, but in reality when you are away in the motorhome do you want to talk on the phone as you drive along admiring scenery?

My Garmin Nuvi is an excellent unit with lifetime mapping and the Bluetooth works well. As has been said before some people have preference for Garmin products and others TomTom. The best thing is to have a look in the like of Halfords and weigh up the different options.

Advantage to the bluetooth in the sat nav is its with you no matter which vehicle you use it in, disadvantage is overall quality isnt as good as a dedicated bluetooth unit which remains in one vehicle

We have a Garmin Nuvi 1490 t (I think)

It has lifetime updates and Bluetooth. As TFC says, lifetime updates are great. While the device works it will be up to date.

Again, as has been said, the bluetooth in it is just alright but if you are like me and use the sat nave as a speedometer and map with a destination set (especially when in France) you turn the volume down so you don't get every instruction. If the volume is down so is the phone volume. Pain in the ass when the windscreen (and therefore Satnav) is so far away.

The parrot units just plug into the back of the stereo and draw the power off it, you just need to route the mic to somewhere it will pick you up talking.

I have the same unit and have never bother to connect my phone via bluetooth. We are both very light phone users and as Mark pointed out we have the sat nav volume down.

Nice unit though and works great. Mine didn't come with lifetime maps. Of course lifetime maps is the lifetime of the device btw not my lifetime! Anyway, it was extra and I didn't bother. I figured that by the time I would need new maps that I'd be as well to put that money towards a new device. I have it three years and not having updated maps has not been a problem so far. But then again I do know that there is a motorway from Gort to Shannon even if the sat nav doesn't  It still tells me how fast I'm driving through the fields :D

We have a Tom Tom 930 (I think) and the maps are 3 or 4 years old, Last year we used it in a hire car in Purto Del Carman, Lanzarote. They must have changed all the one way streets the opposite direction because it tried to take us the wrong way down all the one way streets, I nearly threw it out the window.

That's what you get for going on holiday without your motorhome. :D

Got to admit if I was encountering that kind of problem I would fork out for either maps or a new unit.
