Insurance Renewal

 ·
Posted: 10.01.2014  ·  #1
I'm coming up for insurance renewal in a few weeks time. Currently I'm with AXA through Dolmen Insurance Brokers. As far as administration and dealing with them is concerned, I have no problems at all - also the premium last year seemed reasonable.

I have - thankfully - never had to process a claim with them so not sure what they are like in that situation.

Just wondering who you (ROI members) are with and if you have any suggestions or comments on the service and prices you are getting.

Thanks :-)

While im in the north I had cause to use the claims function on the Dolmen policy and you basically deal directly with AXA so it was problem free.

I'm with Dolmen. Have been since the start. TBH I think it is good value. If I could get my house insured for the same amount as my camper then I'd be a happy man. House insurance is such a rip-off.

See what I mean:

And thats for a fairly average house in the countryside with monitored alarm and 5+ years no claims. In fact I've never claimed on my home insurance :bandit: :bandit: :bandit:

No doubt I can now look forward to the phone call "Do you want to go ahead with our quote?"

Dolmen. Had an issue with French toll booth on the way down (on Costa del Sol) and Dolmen passed it over to Axa.

Thanks mine is due before end of next week.

That quote above is from AxA. Currently with FBD. They were competitive when we first went with them but each year it goes up and up and up. Will try Lynesy Ryan.

Thanks Ken. Will try that now.

The AXA one is a joke. The have a €350 excess but it's €1,000 if the claim relates to water escape and €5,000 for subsidence.

I have had the run around from axa on a car claim, but couldn't fault them on the MH, took it to Donnaghys repaired and home in a week and no increase in premium, although it wasnt my fault.

I am insured with Stuarts in Dublin although they have branches in other towns. Have found them very good and helpful.

We are with Aviva for car and Camper Insurances last year we paid around €300 for Camper ,a few years ago an uninsured driver hit our car that was only 3 months old at the time and they sorted it out without any hassle .I would recommend them highly.

Im with Dolmen and have mixed views about them, had administration problems three years out of five, they cancelled my insurance twice saying they never recieved my premium on time, even though i went to Dublin and paid it over the counter myself two weeks early, good job I had reciepts to prove. They always sorted it out in the end, I got broken into and robbed whilst in France two years ago and they were very efficient and organised replacement glass for me within two hours.

Have always had insurance with Dolmen as they were always the cheapest quote. I cant comment with regard to their efficiency processing claims, With regards to house insurance was previously with Quinn/Liberty but moved this month to Aviva as they have an offer which is equivalent to eight weeks free.

The number one money saving rule is never accept the renewal quote without shopping around as they give better offers to new customers than existing ones

I always select email as my preferred contact when on comparison websites and have set up an email account that they can spam as much as they like because I never open it. Saves getting bombarded with calls and texts, and spam on my main email account.

Our son was killed while driving my car almost 3 years ago. Axa gave us the run around for a year while they tried to get out of paying... due to the amount of other third party claims no doubt. They put us through hell on earth..not even answering solicitors letters. They settled on the first anniversary, one day following the inquest into his death which clearly showed he was not to blame for the accident. North of the border. Hope I never have to claim on motorhome insurance based on previous experience.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss and the way they treated you, I have had a bad experience of axa relating to car insurance but good in relation to the motorhome. Like a lot of insurances you are not fully aware of who is underwriting it until you have paid your money.

Richhill you could have done without all that hassle having to cope with those terrible circumstances. Only someone who has been through it will fully understand what you have come through and indeed still going through. One never gets over something like that.

Thanks for those remarks folks, I was really just trying to point out that even going through the event of our son (only child ) of 19 years, being killed in a car accident, AXA were attempting to recover all the 3rd party claims from me! that meant we had to work with several solicitors and our accountant. They just dropped their pursuit of me without any apology for the hell on earth they put us through - facing the prospect of losing our house etc to pay all the 3rd party claims. They just dropped the case on the first anniversary and walked away, leaving us to cope with the extra stress - I ended up in hospital - heart problems as a result of the pressure. We then had to settle the bills from solicitors and accountant. I hope the Motorhome insurance is dealt with by people who actually have a heart, for the person/ people dealing with my case, didn't.
Buyer beware?

John,

It makes me very 😠 when I hear stories like that. After all what is insurance for!?!?!?! if not for events/accidents such as you experienced.

They (insurance companies) mostly seem to be the same, it is a money making exercise and nothing else. It costs nothing to be thoughtful and nice.
