speed limits

Just been reading an article in MMM mag (Watch your speed) the editor says he has a crib card
clipped to the dashboard for driving in France,Perhaps he and the guy who posted the article would
find it easier if they were to drop the zero from the end of the Kph and multiply by 6 to give them
their speed in Mph.
50 kph x 6=30 mph / 100 kph x 6 = 60 Mph etc

You get used to it! We drive an ex uk 4x4 and car which are in miles. The Motorhome is in km and I find it strange.

I think most of the Satnav's show your speed. Mine does.
It is likely to me much more accurate than your speedo too

Your speedo should show km/h as well, but on mainland you must obey local speed limits as some are lower than those from home

Yeah I always switch the sat nav to kh/h and there's a large dial on mine so it's easy to see. Also the one fitted in the Motorhome tells me when I'm over the speed limit which is very handy.

Too true FC and we should be considering other road users as well.

If you think about it we shouldnt be driving them like racing cars anyway :bandit:

Very true but it is easy to unintentionally break a low limit and end up with a lighter wallet. While I have done the former thankfully I've gotten away without the latter 8-)

I love having the speed displayed on the GPS. It is more accurate and displayed very simply and don't have to look down through the steering wheel at a needle between a cluster of numbers to determine my speed.

Generally I've found that European drivers are more courteous than a lt of the idiots here.

I recently went to lift a corvette from the south of England that a friend had bought from America. It drove well going to Holyhead but he asked me to keep a close eye on the coolant temperature and oil pressure. Arriving back in the south, I wasn't exactly taking it easy in the early summers morning and as I approached Monaghan upon entering road works I observed a Garda car joining me from a side road. I immediately slowed and the corvette having a complete digital dash with heads up display, I switched to kpm and gingerly drove at the speed limit until the Garda pulled off. All off a sudden I almost shat myself looking at the temperature and oil pressure and skidded to a halt. It was only them that I realised the bar and temp had changed to metric also. I thought for a nervewrecking few minutes I had cooked the engine

Is there not a time delay between your sat-nav and the sat it is getting its info from you may think your doing 60 but in fact you could be doing 62 and get ticket

There is a bit of lag but it shouldn't be that noticeable and a similar thing on the radar guns

If its working properly (which it doesn't from time to time) mine would have a delay of no more that 1 - 2 seconds. Thats close enough for me.
