Heres a good bit of intell....

I was looking at Stenna Ferries prices for Holyhead to Dublin in June 2014 roughly £346 for me Joanne and our 6mtr van, so even allowing for the fact thats its "summer" time we thought that was just too much... I normally pay around £300 for me and company car (which again is too much but the company pay so hey ho 8-) )

So i thought I wounder how much for Liverpool to Belfast (same dates) and was presently surprised, it cost £259 for me and Joanne and the van on a flex ticket. :-)

So booked and paid but then relized it is my friends daughters wedding so we have to go and help out with the celebrations   and this morning changed the booking for a week later now out on 21st June and back on 5th July and only cost £20 extra for return ferry so total is £279.

I have the stenna plus seats booked as im a stenna line regular biaaatch
so that when we will be visiting and looking forward to a great fun filled holiday... dont care about the weather as a friend once told me
"its not bad weather, just bad choice of clothes"

Plus if your really cannie collect the Tesco vouchers and exchange them for 3x thier value on Stenna Lines and on Eurotunnel for the Folkstone Calais route..which is great!

As far as I can tell collecting Tesco vouchers is a farce(for the Irish sea crossings). To start with Tesco here is dearer than everywhere else so you are paying for it anyhow. When you book you cannot get any special offers and there are only so many Tesco passengers allowed on any one sailing.

The famous quote by Stenaline "There are no Tesco voucher options for that sailing"

Cheapest boat we have got so far with the MH was by using the "same price as a car" offer on Stenaline for midweek travelling to and from Scotland to NI.

The ferrys on the Irish Sea 'price fix' without a doubt, we are all being ripped off and until we get some competition on that route we will continue to be ripped off at every turn.

Question asked to P&O:

"As cheap as £56 return from England to France, Larne to Cairnryan £300
return!
Why so expensive? "

Their reply:

Quote
In the past on our continental routes we had Duty Free shops which
made a great deal of profit for our company and as such we could
discount the cost of tickets on these routes. Since EU restrictions
were introduced we no longer have Duty Free shops onboard, however the
customers who use these routes are accustomed to paying very low
amounts for the tickets and will simply use the competition if we no
longer discounted them. On the Irish Sea routes there is much less
competition and our customers are accustomed to paying much higher
prices for tickets.
While I can appreciate your comments in regard to
the price difference for similar duration crossing I hope that you can
appreciate that as a business we will apply a price which we feel is
sustainable and profitable for the route.

Shame on Stena what a bismal answer. I wonder has the Price commission ever investigated them? Does any know?

It was P&O not Stena that were asked.

The monopolies commission investigated when Stena purchased DFDS, Stena and P&O are linked, perhaps not on the Irish sea crossing but on the French crossings.

The Monopolies Commission found no wrong doing - which is the answer we expected. We will never change the pricing unless another ferry Company decides to sail the Irish Sea, as previous attempts by various people including myself have always came back with the same answer. "It's a commercial decision"

Bad idea Jack. If ally is the captain then there will be such a long queue outside the chaplain's door you'll never see daylight again. :D

I was only making people aware that tesco vouchers can be used, I didn't know until a older couple told me while waiting at Dover.....I didn't use them for this trip.

However I do agree that the ferries price fix, that is obvious by the comparison made on the two routes, Liverpool Belfast was the cheapest. :D
I have just got a quote from Irish Ferries to compare on Holyhead Dublin route... Wait for it 🇧🇭 £419 for the same days sailing on a Saturday and returning on a Saturday... FFS no wonder people won't travel to and from Ireland! :'(

So my price at £279 is expensive in comparison to Dover Calais routes sailings, but a dam site cheaper than £419 leaving me more money to spend on beer and food!

Now which pub should we visit first? :D :D

I can't understand why the a Tourist Boards on both sides don't put pressure on the Ferry Companies.

They do sort off, they try to get good deals but are pretty hopeless at it. The MLA's in NI tried it also. But... and this is what I said earlier, we have no chance as it is a Commercial Decision, so no one else's decision only the ferry companies and they have us by the short and curly's.
