Wiring a reversing camera

Hi all, i have a reversing camera and screen for my camper and would like to wire them through a cigarette lighter adapter instead of wiring straight onto the battery. The adapter only has positive and negative wires while the screen and camera also have an earth. Could i just run the earth wire to any metal part of the body i can find?

Welcome Chance,

If your mh is 12volt,it will only have positive and negative (negative been the earth) i would say its ok to wire in to cig adapter once you use a fuse.But i am sure you will get more advice before the evening out.

ps what part of the world are you in( if Ireland just the county will do) :up:

is the extra wire on the screen and camera to connect to the rev. light ( or gearbox ) to let camera know you are reversing, as there is only pos + neg on the van ( 12v dc ) as Taylor says

Camera

The out going live on the reversing switch on the gearbox should be connected to the red live on the camera,the black is the earth,when you go to reverse the power is sent to the camera, hope this helps :up:

I picked up a + feed from the ignition switch to power my camera rather than using the switch on the gearbox. The advantage of wiring it this way is that I have it on all the time when I'm driving. Ideal for keeping an eye on those a***holes who insist on trying to kiss your back bumper. When the ignition is switched off the camera also goes off.

I picked up the feed direct from the battery, use it as a rear view mirror, and can turn it on when I want to see and hear what's going on behind me when parked up
