hello folks,
first post on here, hoping to get some help and useful information.we dont have a camper yet but are saving hard and hope to get one before the summer.the plan at the moment is to buy a panel van and get a conversion. we are starting small.as we are boaters we already understand a lot of the logistics as in space, water, heat, electricity, toilet etc.
i have been noticing loads of primastar vans about and we are thinking along these lines.as we live in the city our parking space is underground so we are restricted with height and the van we get will be our only vehicle.we have a fiat doblo at the moment but it rarely gets used as we can walk to work thank god.any ideas, thoughts or advice on this plan would be much appreciated.thanks,
paul

Welcome to the Craic, Paul!

Make sure you do your homework regarding converting a van to a camper. If you are in the south you will have to pay Duty to change from a van to a camper and also get an engineers report and possible electric/ Gas certs. Is the Primstar the same van as the Opel vivaro? If so we had them at work and while they were a lovely van to drive, they gave endless trouble when they shoved on on mileage.

thanks for the welcome everybody.we are very much looking forward to something new.
thanks Pat,this is the kind of stuff i need to be aware of. do you know what kind of duty this would be so i can do some research.
i figured as much regarding the engineers report which is why we plan to get a professional fit out/conversion with every thing above board and all the relevant paperwork.
i think the primastar is a nissan and to be honest we are not very brand conscious when it comes to vehicles.we just want something reliable and decent without breaking the bank.
i have done some looking on the net but can anybody make any recommendations on vans and fitter outters or point me in a direction.
the long term plan will be to hopefully move on to something bigger and more comfortable but for the time being this is as far as we can stretch.
paul

Yes Paul, Ally is correct, No point recommending a firm in Kerry and you might be in Derry! That go's for all members who don't have their location added. Just add your Location and Members will be able to give more accurate advice.

Welcome Paul, you will get a lot of information here,it will be very hard to know what kind of valuation the VRT people will put on your conversion as they will haveto see it and value it themselves.
