Thanks Mark. I'll have a look as we hop to go to the South of France next year and it might be an option.

Rosslare to St Nazaire price is good but I am not sure if it would suit us as the sailing is longer.
It is a bit of a balancing act between price and time for us. Not sure yet if we go for two or three weeks this year either.

This sailing is a good option for anyone with the time. I just need to get my head round " do I want to take longer to get less distance the first day for less money or not".

It's about 4 hours more sailing and for me it would put me closer to my preferred route ie Nantes,Bordeaux etc however how long does it take to drive from Cherbourg to Nantes as the landing time seems to be around 19.30 you would not get much further before having to do an overnight stop. The only potential benefit is a bit on fuel rather than time. If the onward bit to Spain landed in Santander then it would be a serious contender for me, but as is it's too far over for my usual needs/final destination

Is the crossing rougher as a rule down the west coast of France than to Cherbourg ?
Have you the use of the cabin until just before you land or are you kicked out in the morning?
What are their boats like as you have a long day to put down until 19.30 PM ?
Have anybody used this shipping line in the past and if so how did you get on?

Just checked a departure in early March and returning in late May and the comparison was

Irish Ferries - Rosslare - Cherbourg (my usual route) 18 hours approx on the boat and cost is €484
LD Ferries - Rosslare - St Nazaire approx 21 hours and cost is €420

If you are travelling south which I usually am then the St Nazaire would be worth while - for an extra 3 hours on the boat I get > 200 miles further south, save €64 on the ferry fare and probably €100 on diesel (200 miles saved going and coming back)

I am delighted to see the additional service and competition

Happy days :)

It's about 400 miles from gijon to the French border at irun and 390 from st nazaire to irun, you would end up closer to Portugal than France on this boat.

Google Maps has Irun - Gijon as 385km, 4 hours and Irun - St Nazaire as 630km, 6 hours.
Coming from the East we'd be better off driving [at our speed] for 3 hours more to St Nazaire [weather permitting].

John, where did you get those figures?
As I have yet to take the Motorhome to Spain I was thinking of taking this boat down and doing a week or so along the Spanish coast into France and then up to Cherbourg.

I worked it out to be about 250 miles from Gijon to Biarritz and nearly 400 from Biarritz to saint Nazaire.

Not sure, there was a bit of wine involved, but I think the gijon to irun is km, but the nazaire bit is in miles. I used google maps to work it out. If I was heading to the house st nazaire is an option but not a lot in it. I have been looking at crossing the Pyrenees using the so port tunnel avoiding the A63 and irun

Our plan for this trip [currently at Camping Pinar San Jose, west of Tarifa] is down the western side of Spain and then slowly round the med coast.
Originally we were going to go Brittany Ferries to Santander but they don't run late November. So we took Celtic Link to Cherbourg.
The new LD lines would have worked for us outbound, but returning looks better via St Nazaire.

Was the onboard accomodation the same? the outside cabins are E50 more expensive each way.
The offer is limited to the first 200 as far as I know.
I just booked as well, June 13th to July 2nd cost 367 for 2A2C and a <6.5m camper which I don't own yet:)

Pogonogo that's what I tried to book on without success. I've decided to hold back to let things settle down rightly or wrongly but that's what I'm doing at the moment. I'll look at it in a a week's time.

The Boat concerned is The Scintu which has a capacity for 492 passengers and 195 cars. On-board you’ll find a bar, restaurant, shop and comfortable lounges. These are the Facts on their web site with no mention of Lorries. Anybody know how this compares with Celtic or Irish Ferries Boats?

We are also giving this some serious thought. Cant tell how it compares to the other boats with the exception its cheaper than both and saves on diesel as we are heading for Portugal

I am tempted for the same reasons but only as far as St Nazaire as I am not a great traveller on ferries.

Bleedin" typical, you wait years for ferries then "loads" come along at once! I booked the Irish Ferries, Dublin-Cherbourg a couple of weeks ago and St Nazair could"ve been better.. 🇧🇭 Great to see more options tho"

Cheers, CMD, although I"ve already paid 100 euro depost to I.F. but, at £485 at similar dates, it"s worth me changing to L.D. It looks like a similar boat to Celtic and I.F. (on the Dublin-Cherbourg route), bit basic but adequate.
Mmm... gonna give that some thought.
