Outside lights front and back - habitation

 ·

My tail lights on one side, bottom and top, have stopped working, as has the marker light above the cab on the same side.

I assumed as it is all one side and on the habitation side of things it would be a fuse in the habitation area. Checked all fuses and all were ok. Next I checked all fuses in the engine bay and all ok, also checked all fuses in the cab both left and right banks, found one blown and replaced it but still no joy.

Have had a browse at the wiring and there doesn't seem to be any breaks or any wires loose.

Any idea's folks?

Ally did you check the bulbs? In my Swift Bolero when a tail light bulb went they all went one after the other within a few hours.

Check that all the fuses are tight in their sockets Ally.

I suppose they are hardly all wired to the one earth strap?, might be worth while running a temporary bit of wire from the neg pole of the battery to the back of one of the lamps seeing that all of the fuses are ok.

A corroded connection is also a possibility pull any you see apart and re-connect

I had a similar problem with my 03 citroen relay whilst away in france earlier this year, first of all the brake lights quit so i replaced the blown fuse ,then they quit again a few days later, along with the left tail light and right front side light,i checked the wiring behind the tail light and found a screw just touching the loom which caused a short, the fuses which blew were in the left side of the dash.Check if your front sidelights are still working.[this could eliminate the fuse] then check the tail light wiring ,hope this helps......

No luck yet, even found a broken wire but fixing it didn't put the lights back on. I think there must be a hidden fuse somewhere.

Still looking... :-/

Remember that the broken wire may have corrosion/damp in it so you may have to go back a few inches either end to get good cable.

Ally on most Autotrails there is a small box behind the drivers seat EM50 interface It carries the fuses for the step, front and rear marker lights etc. Im not sure 696G has it or not but if you look in behind the drivers seat and check. Cheers.W

I would not have thought that both sides are fused separately. Jack may be right 1 bad bulb or 1 bulb with a bad connection

I suspect that because they are not in the schematics of the Autotrail or Sargents web site they have been fitted as a kit. Which means the wiring would be taken off behind the taillights. This does not mean a fuse gone rather a bad or broke connection.

Done this with no luck, but then done the same with the positive and they worked so broken wire. Ran a new positive from the other tail lights and I now have lights :)

Thanks everyone for the advice.

You will need to trace the wire as it may be shorting against the body somewhere and may cause a bigger failure further down the line
