Swift Bolero Motorhome Electrics Problems

Hello! Has anyone else had problems with the batteries on the Fiat Ducato 2.3l draining from full charge (with everything switched off) within a few days so that the engine cannot even be started. The Fiat dealers, specialist auto electricians, etc, have all had a go and failed. I have to keep a trickle charger running all the time it is parked up at home to avoid ruining another battery. Anyone had and solved a similar problem?

How old are the batteries? When was the last time they were removed and tested individually?

Yeah - I see where Blag is going I think & and I'd tend to agree. There's a thing called deep discharge, if a battery is drained, even as little as twice it can render the battery pretty useless. I had a similar problem with an old car. I'd always keep a car batt. isolated or on a trickle, so it'd start. When taking it for test I jumped it and drove it to halfords for evaluation and test, it'd show over 92% but wouldn't start when I'd refit after coming out of the shop... Really bizarre...

The 6kms from shed to halfords was enough to charge it up.... They become "fragile" if you like, charge up but also drain really quickly.

New battery will sort it I'd say!

Yeah I had a Swift Bolero the year they were introduced and I only kept it 2 years. Exactly the same problem and I never got it sorted out.

Try Disconnecting one of the Battery Leads when it is fully charged and reconnect it after a few days and see if it starts! if it doesn't I would say your Battery is Faulty.

It's well beyond my level of expertise. But the Batteries themselves are the first port of call. That said a dealer and certainly a specialist auto electrician should be able to quickly determine if they are kackered. Does your van have an Elektroblock? If so that could be part of the problem. The elektroblock charges the leisure and possibly the starter battery on hook up. I didn't think it did charge the starter batter but according to my handbook it does. (I had cause to read it in depth today :'( ) Mine is a Dethleffs so check your handbook/user manual.

Anyway where I'm going with this... if your Elecktroblock is set up to charge the starter battery then it could also be draining that battery if there was something wrong with it.
