American RV

I recently purchased a American RV, a Ford coachman 350SS. A good friend happened to have purchased a camper van around the same time. He unlike me, has been using it none stop and has toured Ireland quite a lot. He phoned me for a chat last night and remarked that he met "a Guy" a experienced camper, who told him the most campsites will not allow Americans RV on there site as they are to big. Is this true? and has any one with an RV ever being refused entry on to a camp site. I would appreciate any information or experiences you may have encountered on this matter
regards
Chris
PS his remarks have has unsettled me as this will hamper my travel plans.

I'd say he's just jealous of your Leprechaun Chris... What is the overall length and width of your camper?

I'm sure the lads with the big-rigs will chime in soon and let you know if they've had any problems... I'd bet your main issue may be access to the smaller campsites so you might have to do a bit of forward planning. I know the tail swing on our Leprechaun has given reasons to sweat in the past when trying to get through very small campsites. I particularly remember issues over near Wicklow we had problems navigating a campsite. Let's say my dad did a bit of tree pruning with the rear bumper

I doubt you'll find too many campsites that "don't allow" American campers... Not in this economy anyway...

Thanks for sharing the photo of your new camper with me... She's a beaut! Best of luck with it...

Have I mentioned I'm jealous?

Looks great Chris, I really can't imagine problems on the vast majority of the sites.

Nothing to Worry About

Have. 9.2mtr tag myself and there are a few in the south that I know of won't accept tags and twin wheel Motorhomes and Caravans was told years ago some sites use it as an excuse to keep are cousins out if you catch my drift, and some of the site owners are afraid of getting their grass cut up.Personally
I wild camp so never really affects me,had the same worries years ago after buying my first one but doesnt really affected me you've not done the wrong thing,it is a very small minority and not too big a problem to work round Good Luck Baz25

Have seen two similar vans........even longer I think than your van in tollymore,.......I reckon they have to fold their mirrors to get through the narrow entrance and exit of same.........but in they come and no remarks passed. ..........enjoy....lovely van...

I have mine over 5 years now with no issue. Though not that often in sites I must admit, RV's usually have quite an overhang so it is easy to back up over the grass and fit in a normal size site. Enjoy your van

Hi Chris, nice RV. We"re a lot bigger and have never had a prob. tho" I do call and book and make sure they know our size, it really surprises people where you can park an RV ! Google earth is good to check entrances too. I do advise a trip over to France/Europe, RV"s, being LHD, really come into thier own
