I have a loc8 code for years but never used it. Below is some instructions and the Garmins that can use them.

LOC8 is a postcode system developed by a couple of guys from Cork a few years ago. It is a brilliant system especialy for anyone interested in maps as you can find your location on a OS map with the code if you don't have satnav. They offered the system for free to the Irish government last year when they spoke of a postcode system but nothing happened. Last week the minister, Pat Rabbitte, announced a new postcode system. He said it would take about two years to develop and cost around three million. Figure that. Typical "jobs for the boys" bullsh*t.
It works with all newer garmin and TomTom units. It really is a very simple but effective system and will pinpoint any address to about three to five meter accruacy.

PS. I don't work for them, just love the system. :-) :-)

Dave (Eirebus) was telling me about them at the weekend. So I had a look. It says to "unlock" your satnav for them.

If I do that, do I download loc8 codes or how do I find them? do I have to use the map or do some business's and homes show them in their address?

At the moment just some businesses show them. More people should show them on their address. A lot of courrier companies use them.

It is mainly courier companys that use them and it is on my garman sat nav without unlocking anything and as wayfarer says it is very accurate, fire and ambulance service can use it so it is very handy if you live in a rural area and you need these services
